About Woven by Toyota
Woven by Toyota is enabling Toyota’s once-in-a-century transformation into a mobility company. Inspired by a legacy of innovating for the benefit of others, our mission is to challenge the current state of mobility through human-centric innovation — expanding what “mobility” means and how it serves society.
Our work centers on four pillars: AD/ADAS, our autonomous driving and advanced driver assist technologies; Arene, our software development platform for software-defined vehicles; Woven City, a test course for mobility; and Cloud & AI, the digital infrastructure powering our collaborative foundation. Business-critical functions empower these teams to execute, and together, we’re working toward one bold goal: a world with zero accidents and enhanced well-being for all.

The AD/ADAS group at Woven by Toyota is developing a scalable, data-driven approach to autonomous and assisted driving. Our AV Performance Team develops strategies and executes testing globally for Toyota’s Personally Owned Vehicle (POV). Team members include testing experts that build, execute and refine test methods - in simulation, closed course, and real world environments - enabling data driven decisions about the functions we develop and their integrated performance. The testing feedback from our team is critical to accelerating vehicle development and delivering production-ready solutions based on cutting edge research and development in the domain.
Our Product Delivery organization is looking for a technical specialist who can define and lead the test strategy for autonomous driving software at the system level.
This role is responsible for determining the most appropriate test modality for each requirement or scenario, such as simulation, closed-course testing, or on-road testing. The specialist will not necessarily execute tests directly, but will lead the overall technical direction of testing and validation activities.
The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of autonomous driving systems and system-level validation. They can understand complex system behavior, identify validation gaps, and work cross-functionally with software developers, test teams, tool teams.
Define test strategies for autonomous driving software and related vehicle functions
Analyze system requirements and determine the appropriate verification and validation method for each requirement
Decide which requirements or scenarios should be tested through simulation, closed-course testing, proving ground testing, or on-road testing
Lead the technical planning of validation activities, including test scope, test objectives, required coverage, and acceptance criteria
Lead technical discussions with test execution teams, software development teams, system engineers, and tool teams
Support prioritization of test activities based on risk, safety impact, system complexity, and development phase
Provide technical guidance to validation engineers and test teams
Create and continuously improve system-level test methods and best practices
5+ years of experience in system verification, validation, performance testing, or quality engineering for AD/ADAS
Experience defining test strategies from system requirements and selecting appropriate test methods or environments
Strong understanding of system-level behavior, interfaces, performance metrics, and end-to-end software behavior
Understanding of simulation-based testing and real-vehicle testing
Experience analyzing logs, metrics, traces, and test results to identify defects, regressions, and gaps in requirements or test coverage
Experience leading testing activities through influence, without requiring direct people management or personally executing every test
Practical experience with automated testing, regression testing, and continuous integration environments using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI
Basic knowledge of C++ / Python
Business-level communication skills in English and Japanese
Understanding of automotive software development and safety-related processes such as ISO 26262, ASPICE, AUTOSAR, MISRA, or SOTIF
Familiarity with requirements management tools like JAMA
Experience technically leading test architecture, test strategy, or quality improvement initiatives as an individual contributor rather than as a people manager
Knowledge or experience evaluating machine learning models, including performance metrics, dataset quality, edge-case analysis, regression evaluation, and model behavior validation in safety-critical systems
