The AEMT functions as a Basic Life Support with limited Advanced Life Support (ALS) clinician responsible for the assessment, treatment, stabilization and transport of patients in the prehospital and interfacility transport environments.
AEMTs provide emergency medical care consistent with:
• West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services (WVOEMS) Scope of Practice
• West Virginia Statewide EMS Protocols
• Medical Director standing orders and medical command
• Monongalia EMS policies, standard operating guidelines, and credentialing requirements
• AEMTs are responsible for patient care, documentation, operational readiness of equipment and vehicles, professional conduct, and participation in training and quality improvement activities
• AEMTs represent Monongalia EMS through professional interactions with patients, families, healthcare providers, public safety partners, and the community

Requirements

1. High school diploma or equivalent

2. National Registry of EMTs Advanced Emergency Medical Technician registration and renewed every two (2) years

3. West Virginia Office of EMS Advanced Emergency Medical Technician license or successfully obtain within 30days of hire and renewed every two years

4. Valid Driver’s License with driving record acceptable by motor vehicle insurance carrier

5. Emergency Vehicle Operator Safety (EVOS) certification or successfully obtain within thirty (30) days of hire and renewed every four (4) years

6. Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (or equivalent) certification or successfully obtain within 30 days of hire and renewed every two (2) years

7. Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (or equivalent) certification or successfully obtain within thirty (30) days of hire and renewed every two (2) years

8. Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification or successfully obtain within one (1) month of hire and renewed within two (2) years of certification date

9. Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or equivalent, or Pediatric Education for Prehospital Providers (PEPP) certification or successfully obtain within one (1) month of hire and renewed within 2 years of certification date

10. West Virginia Office of EMS Blood Endorsement (Assistant) or successfully obtain within one (1) year of hire and renewed annually

11. Successful completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) or successfully obtain within thirty (30) days of hire within (1) month of hire

i. IS 100: Introduction to the ICS System

ii. IS 200: Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response

iii. IS 700: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System

iv. IS 800: National Response Framework, an Introduction

v. NIMS 800: National Response Framework, an Introduction

12. Unencumbered ability to practice Emergency Medical Services within the State of WV and be in compliance with all Federal, State, and Local statutes, rules, and regulations

13. Background check that does not demonstrate a threat to public safety, health, or welfare nor an unwillingness to comply with state laws, rules, procedures, etc.

14. Not have been convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless driving or other vehicular violation causing bodily injury or death within the two years prior to hire

1. Associate or bachelor or graduate level degree from an accredited post-secondary educational

1. Minimum of two (2) years of driving experience

1. Two (2) or more years of experience as a field clinician at the AEMT level

Responsibilities

1. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

2. Ability to utilize computing systems that are required for essential job functions. This includes but is not limited to:

i. Scheduling and timekeeping software

ii. Web based learning platforms

iii. Electric Patient Care Report (ePCR) systems

iv. Scan and attach documentation to electronic systems

v. Sending and receiving email communications with and without attachments

vi. HR (Human Resource) portals

vii. Incident management and fleet management systems

viii. General office programs such as Microsoft Office or similar software including but not limited to: Word, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, SharePoint
