SUMMARY
The Sr Robotics Lab Technician will be responsible for supporting trade show demo cells, lab customer demos, and general lab upkeep.  Position will involve travel to industry trade shows to support demo setup/teardown and customer interface.  The Technician will also provide support to demo lab and R&D engineering personnel. The Sr Robotics Technician will assist with design and troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. The role will also include mentoring and training of other Robotics Lab Technicians.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Support trade show cell build and debug.
  • Provide trade show support including, but not limited to show cell setup and tear down, cell packing, cell troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Provide support to engineering with R&D cell builds, custom demos, and other development activities.
  • Be proficient and able to run various equipment to fabricate special tooling and fixtures for demonstrations.
  • Be knowledgeable in programming Yaskawa Motoman robots for majority of applications that Yaskawa Motoman pursues, including arc welding, palletizing, general purpose handling, and cutting applications.
  • Provide high-level, troubleshooting support on specialized applications.
  • Develop expertise on all Yaskawa Motoman products in area of focus.
  • Maintain appearance of R&D and demo lab areas.
  • Adhere to highest practicable safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Liaise directly with representatives of materials and engineering departments as required to meet the customer’s expectations.
  • Ability to understand overall system design, function, and operation.
  • Effectively plan and implement the layout of system electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components.
  • Build and test system assembly and subassemblies; perform functionality checks, packing and field installations.
  • Perform high level systems functions, including software upgrades, TCP, Robot Calibration, weld test, system test, etc.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair automation systems including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment. Utilize equipment such as analyzers and meters.
  • Utilize PLC, ladder logic and other test & evaluation systems for system operation, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance.
  • Assist co-workers and temporary employees with on-the-job training. Occasionally assist with development and presentation of training.
  • Responsible for care and usage of department tools and equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to all corporate and department ISO policies and procedures to maintain quality standards.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate of Science degree and a minimum of four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

REASONING ABILITY

Work requires ingenuity to plan and implement projects under general supervision, to examine advanced subjects, to use independent judgment to make decisions under established policies.


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be able to read and understand mechanical, electrical/electronic, pneumatic and
hydraulic drawings, schematics, and diagrams. Must be able to apply these technical skills in an effective manner. Must possess demonstrated interpersonal skills, including excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work effectively with little or no supervision. Employee may be required to assist in the development and build of prototype assemblies, to provide a level of technical expertise in identification, correction and repair of non-conforming materials. Documentation and notification of such discrepancies required per standard operational procedures. Proficient in basic computer skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and with explosives and is occasionally exposed to extreme heat and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Duties may require the occasional use of/contact with/exposure to various hazardous materials (such as, but not limited to grease, oils, lubricants, paint, thinner, parts cleaner, etc.). Employees should have basic awareness of hazardous materials cautions. Those directly using the materials must have specific knowledge of material in use.
