The electrical grid is the largest and most complicated machine ever built. Yes Energy’s industry-leading electric power trading analytics software provides real-time visibility into the massive amount of data generated by the North American electrical grid daily. Our unique and innovative view of the data informs real-time trading decisions and mid-to-long-term investment decisions that keep utility prices low, support the energy transition, and keep the grid running. It’s both challenging work and work with a purpose.

We are looking for a curious, detail-oriented data professional who is excited to turn raw data into clear, trustworthy insights for the business.

This role will build semantic views in our Snowflake-based enterprise data warehouse and use them to develop analytics and dashboards in Sigma, our BI platform. You'll work closely with business stakeholders to understand their questions, then translate those questions into clean, well-modeled data and intuitive visualizations.

This is a junior-to-mid level role, ideal for someone who wants to build a strong foundation in data analytics with a clear path toward analytics engineering, including tools like dbt and Dagster, as they grow.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain semantic views in Snowflake that make curated data easy to query and understand
  • Perform data validation and error analysis to catch and resolve data quality issues
  • Collaborate with the EDA team to ensure semantic views meet business reporting needs
  • Document data definitions and logic so datasets are self-serve friendly
  • Design and build dashboards and reports in Sigma
  • Translate ambiguous business questions into clear, structured analyses
  • Partner with stakeholders to define requirements and iterate on deliverables
  • Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Work closely with data engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders in a fast-paced, highly collaborative team
  • Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback to improve data and dashboard quality
  • Contribute to a learning-oriented team environment
  • Pursue growth opportunities into analytics engineering, this could include activities such as working with established tooling such as dbt and Dagster to working on special projects with senior staff from other teams and/or departments.

Requirements

~1 min read
  • 1-3 years of experience in data analysis, BI, or a related analytics role
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., economics, computer science, data science, mathematics, statistics) or equivalent experience
  • Solid SQL skills, ideally with experience in Snowflake or a similar cloud data warehouse
  • Experience building dashboards or reports in a modern BI tool (Sigma experience a plus)
  • Comfortable working with large datasets and translating business logic into queries
  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
  • Ability to balance speed and rigor in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable asking questions and digging into ambiguity rather than waiting for perfect requirements
  • Enjoys working on a highly collaborative, fast-paced team
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Self-directed and able to manage priorities with support from senior team members
  • Familiarity with version control (Git) a plus
  • Exposure to dbt, Dagster, or similar data pipeline/transformation tools
  • Interest in Python for data analysis
