Job Summary
AHC’s Small Centres, in Wetaskiwin , is looking for a motivated, personable candidate to lead our children and youth summer programming in July and August. This Summer Camp Counsellor will host camps for immigrant and refugee children in Leduc, Beaumont, Alberta, . The Summer Camp Counsellor will work with children and youth (aged 7 – 15) from immigrant families in a day camp setting. The Counsellor will need to plan and facilitate activities for children and youth.
Key Details
- This job is full time for 7 weeks.
- The contract dates are:
- 6 July 2026 - 21 August 2026
- 37.5 hours per week
- 9am to 5pm, Monday – Friday.
- This position is in-person in the Wetaskiwin region, in Leduc and Beaumont.
- There is no remote work option or virtual option.
This position is available through the Canada Summer Job Grant.
To be eligible to apply, you must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
- be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment, and
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
Responsibilities include:
- Designing and hosting interactive group activities for children and youth.
- Preparing program supplies, organizing and delivering them to program sites, and ensuring they are ready for scheduled activities.
- Ensuring the safety and well-being of program participants during activities by following set procedures and protocols.
- Demonstrating professionalism in interactions with all stakeholders, including parents, partners, guest facilitators, and other staff.
- Performing any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- Experience working with children and youth, especially working with new immigrants
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong leadership skills and possess cultural sensitivity
- Good communication skills
- Speak other languages than English is an asset
- Having a Class 5 drivers’ license and own vehicle is an asset. Please state in your cover letter if you have a drivers’ license and access to a vehicle.
- If selected, a clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector check will be required as a condition of employment.
Working Conditions:
- Working hours include working at the program sites, field trips, and in the office.
- Program activities will be both indoors and outdoors.
