The Phlebotomist II receives orders for laboratory testing, collects blood from patients of any age or status and issues appropriate paperwork to the Floyd lab or outside for processing. He/she maintains the laboratory in an efficient working state and performs lab procedures while ensuring quality control.
Responsibilities

- →Performs special procedures as needed.
- →Consistently obtains high quality specimens by capillary procedure.
- →Collects blood cultures with contamination rate below established goal.
- →Collects timed specimens appropriately.
- →Collects outpatients in a timely manner with waiting kept to a minimum.
- →Establishes positive patient identification.
- →Follows all Continuous Quality Improvement standards.
- →Ensures timely collection of all specimen by placing advances orders in proper slots on collection board and by collecting stats within
- →established turnaround times.
- →Correctly labels all specimens and ensures that collections are not missed due to errors and echos from the computer system.
- →Keeps the phlebotomy area clean and stocked with supplies.
- →Follows state, OSHA and other agency regulations, performs special procedures and assists the lab aide when necessary.
- →Processes all specimens quickly.
- →Handles cancellation of orders properly.
- →Accurately logs collection and received times into lab computer system.
- →Maintains a good working relationship with technologists and supervisors.
- →Displays professional attitude while in phlebotomy area.
- →Modifies work schedule as needed.
- →Follows hospital policy for attendance, punctuality, lunches and breaks.

extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries weight up to 50 pounds. Ability to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols with vision
and hearing within normal range to respond to Code alerts and equipment alarms. Work-related stress due to volume and time constraints with
irregular working hours
