About the Role
~1 min readWe are seeking an experienced and compassionate Disability Support Worker to join our Supported Independent Living (SIL) team in Langwarrin, supporting a participant living with Parkinson's disease.
This is a high-responsibility role supporting a participant with complex mobility needs and a high risk of falls. You will work as part of a consistent, well-trained team providing structured, hands-on support that promotes independence while ensuring safety and dignity. Success in this role requires calm decision-making, close adherence to care plans, and a proactive approach to monitoring and responding to changes in the participant's wellbeing.
The participant enjoys maintaining their independence, spending time with their dog, watching sport, and accessing the community. Building a positive, respectful relationship while supporting participation in meaningful activities is an important part of this role.
Responsibilities
~1 min readAs a Disability Support Worker, you will be responsible for delivering safe, person-centred support, including:
- →Providing personal care, including hygiene, grooming, dressing, and assistance with activities of daily living
- →Assisting with mobility, transfers, and safe manual handling
- →Supporting the participant to maintain independence and established daily routines
- →Monitoring wellbeing and promptly escalating any changes or concerns
- →Following detailed care plans, falls prevention strategies, risk management plans, and escalation procedures at all times
- →Assisting with meal preparation, cooking, cleaning, laundry, and other household tasks
- →Supporting community access and meaningful participation in activities
- →Completing accurate and timely documentation during and after each shift
- →Working collaboratively with a consistent multidisciplinary support team
- →Maintaining the participant's dignity, choice, safety, and quality of life at all times
Requirements
~1 min readTo be successful in this role, you will have:
- Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability), Disability, Aged Care, or an equivalent qualification
- Experience providing personal care, mobility assistance, transfers, and meal assistance
- Demonstrated competency in safe manual handling techniques
- Strong understanding of care plans, scope of practice, and escalation procedures
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain)
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Full Australian working rights
The following experience will be highly regarded:
- Experience supporting participants living with Parkinson's disease or other neurological conditions
- Experience working in Supported Independent Living (SIL)
- Experience supporting participants with high falls risk and complex mobility needs
