The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position of Manager, Growth & Stewardship in the Development Department of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY. This is a hybrid role that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month.

This position is part of a collective bargaining unit. It is represented by ACLU Staff United (ASU).

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Associate Director, Growth & Stewardship, the Manager, Growth & Stewardship will be responsible for implementing strategies to upgrade donors across the ACLU’s Nationwide Membership program; project manage all Major donor and DAF-focused omnichannel appeals; and cultivate donors throughout the pipeline. This position will review data for segmentation strategy with internal and external partners and collaborate with the Production team to traffic copy and manage donor campaign elements. Additionally, the Manager will review data and update messaging for weekly mid and major donor acknowledgements and welcome journeys, fielding ad hoc higher value donor correspondence and inquiries. Data literacy, project management experience, and comfort collaborating with diverse teams are essential for success in this position.

  • Project manage 10+ omnichannel Major donor solicitations, DAF appeals, and cultivation campaigns, working closely with DDSRO and NPSPD teams to manage data pulls and review cycles 
  • With partners and team, review data and ask strings for audience plans and ask strings for ongoing, multi-channel donor upgrade efforts 
  • Prepare and review weekly mid and major donor files, including high dollar acknowledgements and welcome emails, ensuring data hygiene and accuracy of donor information 
  • Track performance of upgraded donors and Major donors and escalate notable changes or gifts to Associate Director, Growth & Stewardship, as necessary 
  • Monitor ongoing outbound TM efforts and stewardship calls for upgrade efforts and Major donor appeals 
  • Manage the following cultivation efforts: Impact postcards, the ACLU Insight Panel, holiday cards, ACLU Magazine tip ons, donor spotlights in Annual Reports, DAF cultivation campaigns and postcards, thank you calling and cards for Mid and Major donors, and oneoff cultivations as needed. 
  • As needed, collaborate with other development teams on existing ACLU cultivation opportunities, events, and collateral for the Nationwide Membership upgrade, Mid, and Major audiences. This includes the monthly Debrief, Impact Reports, Leadership Forums, and other member benefits. 
  • Monitor expenditures against annual budgets and process invoices for Growth & Stewardship program 
  • Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned 
  • Be committed to advancing the mission of the ACLU
  • Center and embed the principles of equity, inclusion and belonging in their work by demonstrating commitment to diversity with an approach that respects and values multiple perspectives
  • Be committed to work collaboratively and respectfully toward resolving obstacles and conflicts
  • Direct experience project managing campaigns for multi-channel mid to large sized fundraising programs 
  • Comfort working with large sets of data; prior experience with Salesforce products a plus 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities 
  • Comfort communicating with mid and major donors and external partners 
  • Ability to apply sound judgement and to maintain donor data confidentiality 
  • Experience with telemarketing and/or email programs, preferred 
  • Experience with fundraising copy and scripts, preferred 
  • Experience analyzing campaign performance and making data-informed recommendations, preferred

The ACLU is committed to equity, transparency, and clarity in pay. Consistent with our compensation philosophy, there is a set salary for each role based on geographic work location. The annual salary for this position is $112,584.00 (Level H), reflecting the salary of a position based in New York, NY.  Salaries are subject to a regional pay adjustment if authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
