The Linux Engineer will be responsible for administering, supporting, and maintaining Linux-based systems across multiple customer environments. This role ensures the stability, performance, and availability of production Linux servers and virtual machines, while also contributing to troubleshooting, automation, system optimization, and operational support within a fast-paced engineering environment.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- → Linux System Administration: Install, configure, maintain, and support Linux servers and virtual machines in production environments.
- → System Monitoring & Stability: Monitor system performance and ensure optimal uptime and reliability of Linux-based infrastructure.
- → Incident Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve Linux operating system, application, and network performance issues.
- → Performance Optimization: Analyze CPU, memory, disk, and network utilization and implement improvements to system efficiency.
- → Scripting & Automation: Develop and maintain Bash (and/or other scripting languages) to automate routine operational tasks.
- → Service Management: Manage Linux system services, processes, permissions, and package management operations.
- → Collaboration: Work closely with engineering teams to support application deployments and infrastructure requirements.
- → Maintenance Activities: Participate in scheduled maintenance, patching, upgrades, and incident response activities, including off-hours work when required.
- → Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and system configurations.
- → Operational Support: Support Linux-based application stacks in production environments and ensure system readiness for business-critical workloads.
Requirements
~2 min read- Professional Experience: Demonstrated 3–7+ years of experience as a Linux System Administrator in an MSP, enterprise IT, or production environment.
- Functional Skills: Strong experience in Linux server administration, system troubleshooting, performance tuning, and production support of enterprise systems.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Ubuntu. Strong knowledge of Linux system architecture including processes, permissions, services, package management, and networking fundamentals. Hands-on experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware or KVM and exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure is highly preferred. Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools is a plus. Familiarity with configuration management and automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef is desirable. Strong Bash scripting skills and ability to automate system administration tasks.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, adaptability, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in high-pressure environments.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong customer-focused and professional approach.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related technical field (preferred but not required).
