The Senior Peer Review Specialist reporting to the Manager, Peer Review Excellence, is a collaborative problem-solver responsible for supporting effectiveness, consistency, and continuous improvement of peer review and editorial workflows across AIP Publishing's journal portfolio. Working closely with internal teams and external service providers, this role helps implement workflow improvements, supports operational initiatives, contributes to manuscript tracking system projects, and provides insight into workflow performance and opportunities for enhancement.
Peer Review Workflow Support
- Support the design, implementation, documentation, and continuous improvement of peer review workflows across the journal portfolio
- Support the development and maintenance of standardized peer review workflows
- Document workflows, procedures, and operational standards
- Identify workflow inefficiencies and improvement opportunities
- Support and implement process redesign and operational improvement projects
- Contribute to implementation of new editorial tools and technologies
- Support compliance with editorial quality standards, research integrity requirements, and publishing best practices
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource on peer review processes
Vendor Operations Support
- Support the management and oversight of vendor-supported editorial operations and peer review services.
- Maintain vendor performance reports and operational metrics
- Monitor service levels and escalating issues when required
- Support vendor review meetings and action tracking
- Coordinate with vendors on workflow updates and operational improvements
- Identify opportunities to improve service quality and efficiency
Operational Analytics & Performance Monitoring
- Provide operational insight through monitoring and analysis of peer review and editorial workflow performance
- Maintain dashboards and operational reporting
- Monitor workflow performance metrics and trends
- Identify bottlenecks, risks, and areas for improvement
- Prepare reports and insights for stakeholders
- Support data-driven decision making and continuous improvement efforts
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work collaboratively across internal and external teams
- Support cross-functional projects and initiatives
- Participate in workflow improvement discussions and working groups
- Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Coordinate information gathering and action tracking across teams
- Provide operational expertise and workflow insights to project teams
- Support adoption of new processes, systems, and ways of working
- Strong understanding of peer review processes and editorial workflows
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret operational data and identify improvement opportunities
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement
- Ability to balance operational efficiency with editorial quality and researcher experience
- Comfortable working in a changing environment with multiple priorities
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
- 4+ years of experience in scholarly publishing, editorial operations and peer review
- Experience supporting workflow improvement or operational change initiatives
- Experience working with manuscript tracking systems or editorial platforms
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders across teams
- A remote workforce with staff based in NY, NJ, CT, MD, VA, PA, MA, RI, or Washington, DC, who meet in person for collaboration, training, strategic planning — and fun!

At AIPP, we offer competitive compensation based on the role, experience, and other relevant factors. Under the New York Convenience Rule, all employees, regardless of their residence in other states, will be taxed at the New York State tax rate. Employees may also have additional state-specific tax obligations depending on where they live.
