About Airthings
Founded in 2008, Airthings is a global tech company creating world-class air quality and radon monitors for people and businesses. Led by an international team of experienced scientists, engineers, developers and visionaries, Airthings is on a mission to ensure people around the world take control of their air quality through simple, sustainable and accessible technology solutions. We make radon and air quality solutions an essential and universal element for every building or home. Headquartered in Oslo, we are a Norwegian tech company with a global footprint serving customers all over the world.
We are looking for an Embedded Systems Engineer to work in our Hardware Platform organization at Airthings headquarters in Oslo. You will design and develop electronics and firmware for our portfolio of IoT air quality and radon monitors, taking products from early concept through to high-volume manufacturing. You will work closely with firmware engineers, sensor specialists, and our manufacturing partners to deliver robust, cost-effective, and testable designs.
Job Summary
As an Embedded Systems Engineer, you will own the electronic design of new and existing products. You will create schematics and follow up PCB layout, collaborate with suppliers and our contract manufacturer, and support production through debugging and failure analysis. This role combines creative circuit design with practical production engineering in a small, experienced hardware team.
The role also offers the opportunity to do hands-on embedded firmware work, such as writing sensor drivers and supporting production test software. You will not own the full firmware stack. You will cooperate with our dedicated firmware team. But you will work at the boundary between hardware and firmware where the two meet.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys the full lifecycle of electronics development, from choosing components on a blank schematic to debugging the first prototypes on the bench.
Key Responsibilities
- Design schematics and follow up PCB layout for new and existing products.
- Write sensor drivers and support production test software in collaboration with the firmware team.
- Collaborate with firmware engineers during bring-up and debugging of new designs.
- Work with our contract manufacturer on design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for testability (DFT).
- Debug and perform failure analysis of issues found in production and in the field.
- Document new product designs and maintain design documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in electronics design for volume manufacturing.
- Proficiency in a schematic design entry tool such as Altium.
- Embedded C programming experience.
- Understanding of microcontroller-based systems, including analogue design, low-power and battery-operated circuits, power regulation.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, strong communication and collaboration skills, and fluency in English.
What we offer
- Competitive pay and benefits, including pension and insurance.
- A workplace where work-life balance is valued.
- An inclusive and safe work environment where diversity is embraced.
- Strong learning culture with opportunities to grow technically.
- A central Oslo location, with one of the best canteens in town.
- Social events and team activities.
Our culture
We believe team building and cross-collaboration are essential for long-term growth and high performance. We encourage open discussions, and our flat structure ensures that every voice is heard. We are a multicultural team of curious and creative thinkers, driven to grow and make a meaningful impact.
Our values are Dare, Love and Focus.
