The aim of the Technical Sales Solution Engineer shall be to coordinate all aspects of the bid preparation, execute any design functions and administrative requirements for a comprehensive submission on time.

The Engineer is responsible to achieve (and maximise) the company’s planned profit targets, on time delivery and client satisfaction by designing cost effective solutions meeting client’s budget restrictions yet propose technically viable and enticing solutions to meet client’s technical requirements and where possible exceed them. The Engineer shall also be responsible for preparing the necessary paperwork for the compiling of comprehensive bids and tenders and communications with clients and suppliers alike. From time to time the Engineer shall be required to head technical and commercial meetings with public contracting authorities, consulting engineers and clients representatives, and conduct negotiations to conclude works contracts and secure projects.



Duties and Responsibilities:


Technical & Commercial 

  • Develop an order winning strategy.
  • Review and manage the customer’s enquiry into a costed workable solution.
  • Develop costing as part of the proposal process and carry out valued-engineering designs.
  • Review administrative, commercial and technical tender specifications.
  • Submit a detailed response to the enquire documentation and provide feedback to any subsequent request for clarification.
  • Go into all the enquire details and make sure that all aspects are accounted for.
  • Attend to site visits and carry out site surveys as may be necessary.
  • Act as a project leader during a proposal process and take accountability of all the team working on different aspects of the bid during the process.
  • Liaise with both local and foreign suppliers to negotiate best possible pricing and terms as well as review supplier proposals for technical correctness.
  • Follow up submitted proposals with clients & consultants.
  • Attend resultant calls for negotiations with the customer and convert those opportunities into purchase orders and contracts.
  • Work on networking and relationships building with clients and consultants and other contractors.
  • Act as the company’s internal contact point for the customer during the enquiry and bidding processes.
  • Interpret concept drawings and present design concepts to clients and other interested stakeholders.
  • Handle multiple simultaneous enquires in a busy environment, by keeping a prioritised listing of outstanding tasks. Monitor & review workload schedule and communicate with Manager when issues are envisaged.
  • Review eventual works contracts and purchase orders for correctness and comprehensiveness.
  • Handle project creation process on in-house ERP software on confirmation of orders/works.
  • Follow-up payments of deposits with clients for confirmed orders/works.
  • Preparation and carrying out of detailed handovers backed with documentation in a timely manner for projects.
  • Research new products and solutions and engaging business with new suppliers and sub-contractors.
  • Create new project opportunities within (upselling) and outside (cross-selling) the contract scope (Variations).


Quality Control

  • Oversees internal processes, equipment being used, and the working environment are all conductive to producing a high-quality service.
  • Ensure compliance with the company's management policies and procedures (SOP).
  • Oversees that company’s standards are being implemented accordingly (ISO, LPCB etc) #
  • Maintain all data updated and ensure proper sorting of documents including client acceptance.
  • All files created, received and submitted including supplier quotations and correspondence with suppliers and clients to be properly documented and filed in an easily trackable manner as required by department processes.
  • Ensure proper sorting of commercial, technical and non-technical documents.


Purchasing & Inventory Management

  • Sources, negotiates and manages the purchase of materials and services.
  • Organises, plans and co-ordinates inventory management activities.
  • Oversees that sub-contractors are in line with the company’s requirements.
  • Oversees the departmental purchasing function to ensure material is purchased cost effectively and oversees the inventory function / stock control to ensure raw material and product availability when required.

 

Human Resources 

  • Promote best practice and performance standards.
  • Identify individual training needs.
  • Motivate and leads co-workers in line with the established standards of performance.
  • Coach and develop a high-performance workplace.


Discipline 

  • Addresses any staff discipline.
  • Be of a good example.


Customer Service 

  • Ensure that customer satisfaction and service levels are maintained at all projects levels.
  • Maintain proactive, dynamic and effective communication with customers, suppliers and colleagues at all times.
  • Offer flexible and helpful customer service to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Provide effective feedback.

 

Health & Safety 

  • Promotes & maintains awareness and compliance of H&S in accordance with best practice and legal requirements.

 

Operational Performance 

  • Works on his/her own initiative & operate under minimal supervision.
  • Be assertive.
  • Be accountable of assigned tasks.
  • Responsible for his/her own time management.
  • Supports management reporting, information flow and organisational planning.
  • Empowers subordinates by delegating responsibilities.
  • Is ultimately accountable and takes full responsibility for the outcome of the delegated work.
  • Financial - Reviews financial statements and data. Utilizes financial data to improve profitability. Prepares and controls project budgets.
  • Monitors and manages KPI’s.
  • Requires extreme organization skills, confidence and attention to detail.




Attributes and experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years work experience in a a technical sales or sales engineering role.
  • Experience on Fire Safety and security
  • Preferably holding a Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Valid Maltese driving license
  • Discretion and confidentiality;
  • Planning, organisational and time management skills;
  • Must be flexible and adaptable, able to react quickly when facing any obstacles and prioritizing tasks;
  • Ability to follow directions and Company strategy;
  • Strong learning orientation and ability to take initiatives responsibly;
  • Preference will be given to candidates with the relevant qualifications, experience and possession or else preparation to obtain the Engineering Profession warrant.
