The Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment in support of construction activities on industrial and clean energy projects. This role plays a critical part in earthworks, material handling, grading, and site preparation while maintaining strict adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment such as excavators, dozers, graders, skid steers, loaders, and rollers in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform earthmoving, grading, trenching, backfilling, and material placement activities.
  • Conduct daily pre-operational inspections and basic maintenance of equipment.
  • Work closely with site supervisors, labourers, and other trades to meet project schedules.
  • Read and interpret site plans, grades, and stakes.
  • Ensure compliance with all Barton Malow Canada safety policies, including toolbox talks and hazard assessments.
  • Adhere to environmental practices and spill prevention procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Report equipment defects, safety concerns, or incidents promptly.
  • Participate in mandatory safety training and orientations.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience operating equipment on construction or industrial projects.
  • Experience on energy, infrastructure, or large-scale civil construction projects considered an asset.
  • Valid Equipment Operator certification or equivalent experience.
  • Valid provincial driver’s licence.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Strong knowledge of safe equipment operation and construction site safety.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Willingness to work overtime, shifts, and rotational schedules as required by the project.
