Position Summary:
The Lead Quality Inspector is responsible for overseeing daily inspection activities across all shifts to ensure products meet established quality standards and customer specifications. This role leads inspection teams, supports training and onboarding, manages quality metrics, and drives consistency in inspection processes. The Lead Inspector serves as a key liaison between Quality Assurance and Production, ensuring alignment, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead daily responsibilities of Quality Inspectors across all shifts
Assign inspection tasks and manage workload to meet production demands
Conduct daily stand-up meetings to communicate priorities, updates, and quality concerns
Coach, train, and provide ongoing performance feedback to inspectors
Support onboarding and training of new hires, ensuring a consistent and effective learning experience
Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and quality excellence
Perform and verify inspections including incoming, in-process, finished goods, and First Article inspections
Utilize precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges
Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and quality standards
Monitor production processes to proactively identify and resolve quality issues
Identify, document, and segregate non-conforming materials
Support Material Review Board (MRB) processes and ensure proper disposition of defective products
Partner with cross-functional teams to support root cause analysis and corrective actions
Maintain accurate and detailed inspection records in ERP systems
Ensure compliance with applicable quality standards (e.g., ISO, AS9102)
Track and report key quality metrics, including scrap, defects, and inspection trends
Support audit preparation and compliance activities
Support training coordination and maintain training records for inspection staff
Provide ongoing development and coaching to improve inspection techniques and performance
Standardize training practices across shifts to ensure consistency
Identify opportunities to improve inspection processes, efficiency, and accuracy
Collaborate with Engineering and QA leadership to refine procedures and implement improvements
Support initiatives that enhance quality performance and operational effectiveness
Qualifications:
Required:
Highschool diploma or equivalent
2 year of quality inspector experience in a manufacturing environment minimum
Experience using measuring tools such as calipers, drop gauges, and measuring microscope
Able to read drawings/specifications and be able to interpret requirements
Ability to pass and maintain a yearly vision/eye exam to ensure accuracy in quality inspections
Preferred:
Previous leadership or lead experience
Experience with GD&T is a plus
J-Standard certified
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Attention to detail
Verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of basic math and computer skills
