Research Associate II, Analytical Development
Quick Summary
About Antheia: Antheia is the advanced biosynthesis company transforming pharmaceutical manufacturing and innovation for the 21st century.
About the Role
~1 min readAs a key member of Antheia’s Analytical Development group, you’ll partner closely with the Downstream Processing (DSP) team to keep high-quality analytical data flowing for process development. This role is hands-on and lab-based, with a strong focus on chromatography (especially LC/HPLC) and routine sample preparation and analysis at meaningful scale.
You’ll thrive here if you enjoy steady bench work, take pride in careful execution, and bring a thoughtful, organized approach to managing multiple requests. You’ll be supported by clear SOPs, a collaborative team, and a manager who trusts you to run your day while being available when you need guidance.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Prepare solvents, standards, reagents, and routine samples.
- →Run and review chromatography-based assays (LC/HPLC-heavy; other techniques may include GC and ion chromatography).
- →Manage incoming work via LIMS, track requests, and organize your workload so results are delivered on time.
- →Review data, document results clearly, and keep meticulous records and archives.
- →Perform routine instrument maintenance, basic troubleshooting, and calibrations.
- →Support planning and scheduling of instrument time; communicate timelines with partner teams.
- →Contribute to troubleshooting (for example, investigating unexpected peaks or instrument issues) as you grow in independence.
- B.S. (or equivalent) in a hard science (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, etc.).
- 1 to 3+ years of hands-on chromatography experience (industry preferred; strong academic lab experience considered).
- Comfort with routine sample prep and running established SOP-based assays with care and consistency.
- Strong fundamentals with basic lab equipment and practices (balances, pH meters, glassware, etc.).
- A warm, organized, self-directed working style; you’re someone who can manage requests, keep track of details, and communicate clearly without needing daily oversight.
- Small molecule pharmaceutical chromatography experience (especially LC/HPLC).
- Ion chromatography experience.
- Familiarity with common instrument ecosystems:
- Agilent (common for LC/GC/MS)
- Thermo/Dionex (ion chromatography)
- Experience with MS and related software, for example:
- ChemStation, Chromeleon, MassHunter
- Confidence troubleshooting routine instrument or data issues (you do not need to know every instrument, but you’re comfortable learning and applying good judgment).
- On-site, lab-based role (Menlo Park area).
- Typical business hours with some flexibility (for example, starting a bit earlier or later), as long as the work is getting done and communication stays strong.
- Mission that matters: Antheia is changing how medicines are manufactured, with impact well beyond one site or one team.
- A kind, high-performing culture: Smart, driven colleagues with low ego, plus a community that actually enjoys being together (team activities, events committee, etc.).
- Mentorship and growth: Your hiring manager brings deep analytical chemistry experience (small molecule analysis, method development, scaling to manufacturing) and a mentorship-forward approach.
- Exposure to a growing instrument suite: As you ramp, there is room to expand your assay ownership and learn additional techniques.
Full-time base salary range of $80,000 - $100,000 plus an annual bonus potential and equity opportunities.
