Deputy Process Manager

About This Role

Responsible for the day-to-day management, optimization and continuous improvement of the metallurgical processing operations in order to achieve the company's annual production targets. Accountable for metallurgical performance, plant reliability, production output and compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the effective planning, directing, and controlling of the metallurgical processing operations in order to achieve the annual production targets set by the company.
• Ensure that all processing plants and facilities are efficiently and effectively operated in order to obtain the optimum recovery of gold from the ore.
• Ensure that constant metallurgical and chemical analysis and research are conducted to enhance the efficient operations of the processing plant and the development of new processing and improvement of existing methods and techniques in order to maximize the recovery of gold from the ore.
• Render account for all gold produced in the mine.
• Prepare annual capital and operational budget for the department for review by the Process Manager and consideration of the Board; and when approved, exercises effective budgetary control to ensure that expenditures are within approved limits.
• Formulate appropriate operating procedures and standard practice, as well as instructions to regulate proper and smooth running of the plant in order to achieve Company objectives.
• Formulate all operating parameters for the plant including staffing, maintenance, and other technical issues.
• Plan and project future capital expenditure for maintaining and improving existing operations in line with guidelines provided by the immediate superior.
• Ensure constant investigation of ways of improving processing methods and techniques to enhance gold recovery and increased output and makes recommendation for acquisition of new machinery and equipment for increased production capacity.
• Ensure that the operations of all sections within the department are properly and closely monitored daily, weekly, and monthly performance of each section to ensure that achievable targets of the company are met.
• Constantly assess input requirements necessary for the efficient and effective operations of the Department, and ensures that equipment, reagents consumables and other inputs are maintained at the appropriate levels in order to guarantee continuity of production.
• Study and recommend appropriate modifications in design of equipment which the company intends to acquire for the Department.
• Monitor the implementation of modification and expansion programme as well as the installation and commissioning of new equipment, machinery, and plants in the Department to ensure that acceptable technical specification s and performance standards are maintained.
• Study production proposals from management and advises on its feasibility.
• Ensure that laid down metallurgical and chemical analysis are regularly conducted at the various stages of processing in order to provide proper monitoring and control of the processes for the maximization of gold recovery.
• Ensure constant investigation of operating defects and modifications of existing mechanical and civil structures, as well as plant; equipment and systems in the Department in order to improve the existing working systems.
• Ensures that there are constant activities in research and development into existing and new processing methods and techniques in order to improve gold recovery at the plant.
• Supervises all movements in and out of the gold room to ensure the security of the gold and other gold products.
• Prepare and submit to the Process Manager various technical reports.
• Ensure training and development of subordinates in order to upgrade their knowledge and skills and improve their performance.
• Ensure that all existing security regulations are strictly observed in the Plant, Gold room, and other high security areas in the department in order to prevent theft of gold products.
• Ensure that the provisions of the Factories Act and Mining Regulations are strictly observed in the Department in order to safeguard the safety and health of workmen.

Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies

• Bachelor’s degree in Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
• A minimum of 15 years’ work experience with at least 7 years’ experience in the role of Process Manager.
• Must possess a certificate as a qualified First Aider.
• Must have a Process Plant /Metallurgical Manager Certificate of Competency from the Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission.
• Exceptional knowledge of Mineral Processing specifically on flotation circuits and Sulphide treatment plants.
• Strong analytical skills on metallurgical test works and business acumen to make sound decisions and recommendations.
