CSOs must meet the following qualifications, to be vetted by the contract agency prior to referral.
1. Possess United States citizenship (either by birth or naturalization).
2. Possess a valid high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED), or equivalency.
3. Pass a medical and physical standards examination.
4. Be able to read, write and speak the English language fluently.
5. Be at least 21 years of age.
6. Possess a valid, unrestricted (except eyewear) state driver’s license.
7. Satisfy one of the following: 1) Two years of service in the United States Armed Services (including Reserve or National Guard); 2) Any combination of two years of experience in physical security (as a security officer—armed or unarmed) and service with the United States Armed Services (including Reserves or National Guard; 3) Associate’s Degree in a security or law enforcement field; or 4) Successful completion of a police officer’s basic training academy.
