Astera Labs is establishing a strategic R&D center in Israel to drive the development of high-performance connectivity solutions that eliminate critical “data bottlenecks” and enable the future of AI at scale. As we expand our presence in Israel, we are seeking a motivated Software Engineering Student to join our founding local engineering team.

Working alongside senior engineers, you will gain hands-on experience in developing software infrastructure, tools, and low-level systems that power next-generation hardware and AI platforms. Responsibilities
~1 min read- Partner with and learn from senior engineers to support the physical implementation journey, including synthesis, floorplanning, Place & Route (P&R), and Clock-Tree Synthesis (CTS)
- Assist in macro-level implementation and develop hands-on skills in complex layout routing
- Participate in deep-submicron process challenges under close professional mentorship
- Assist in developing test frameworks, automation tools, and validation environments
- Support debugging and root-cause analysis of software and system-level issues
- Learn and apply best practices for code quality, testing, and maintainability
- Contribute to ensuring robust and reliable software releases
- Develop scripts and tools to automate workflows and improve team productivity
- Collaborate with hardware, architecture, validation, and system teams to understand end-to-end product behavior
- Participate actively in technical discussions and team meetings
- Gain exposure to the interaction between software and hardware in high-performance systems
Requirements
~1 min read- Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Strong foundation in programming and computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, operating systems)
- Experience with one or more programming languages such as C/C++ / Python / Java
- Familiarity with scripting tools (Python, Bash, etc.)
- Ability to work at least 2 days per week at our Haifa/Tel Aviv Center
- Strong problem-solving skills and a "can-do" attitude
- Fluent in Hebrew and English with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Prior experience in a software development student role or a significant academic/personal project
- Experience with systems programming, embedded software, or low-level development
- Familiarity with Linux environments, debugging tools, or networking concepts
- Exposure to software testing, CI/CD, or automation frameworks
- Fast learner with a proactive mindset and a passion for deep-tech and infrastructure
