A regulated South African fintech operating at the intersection of wealth management and embedded credit infrastructure is appointing its first Chief Investment Officer. They already hold active Category I and II FSP licences, an NCR registration, and live payments infrastructure. You are inheriting an established, compliant platform positioned for scale, not a regulatory fixer-upper.

• Genuine Autonomy: This is not a bureaucratic committee role. You are the ultimate investment authority, leading a unified function and directly managing portfolio managers across FICC, credit instruments, and listed equities.
• Direct Equity Pathway: Alongside a competitive base salary and performance-linked short-term incentives, you will have a long-term equity-linked incentive tied directly to AUM growth, leading to a genuine equity stake subject to board approval.

• Team-Building Authority: You will have the direct mandate and budget to recruit, compensate, and shape your own lean team of high-caliber portfolio managers.

Reporting directly to the CEO and engaging the Board, you will own the investment philosophy, asset allocation frameworks, and portfolio construction across all mandates. You will act as a working leader, reviewing daily risk positions, leading the Investment Committee, and partnering with the CEO to pitch to pension funds, asset consultants, and institutional allocators. You will also take on the Key Individual (KI) responsibilities for the investment function.

• Academic & Quantitative Depth: A relevant postgraduate qualification such as a CFA charter, CA(SA), or an MSc in Finance or Financial Engineering. Quantitative capability is valued far above institutional brand names.
• FICC Fluency: A minimum of 7 years of institutional investment management experience, with primary expertise in fixed income, money markets, yield curve analysis, and rate cycles.
• Structured Credit Exposure: Clear experience with structured instruments, credit-linked notes, or securitisation structures as an investor or arranger.
• Regulatory Standing: Current FAIS Key Individual (KI) approved status under Category I and II FSP licences, or undeniable eligibility for immediate approval.
• Capital Raising Credibility: Proven experience presenting to investment committees, responding to RFPs, and engaging asset consultants on behalf of an investment manager.
• Equities Literacy: While FICC is the core language of this role, you must possess a solid working knowledge of listed equities and valuation frameworks to oversee the equity sleeve effectively.
