Deployment Operations Specialist (VMI and Subcontractors)
Quick Summary
About Base Base is America’s next-generation power company.
Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.
About the Role
~1 min readBase is scaling from hundreds to thousands—and soon hundreds of thousands—of battery deployments across the country. As our footprint grows, so does the complexity of the materials ecosystem surrounding each installation. We are seeking an Operations Specialist to own the day-to-day management of Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs, subcontractor consigned inventory, and deployment-specific parts—ensuring every field team has exactly what they need, exactly when they need it.
This role sits at the intersection of supply chain operations, systems thinking, and field enablement. You will be accountable for building programs from scratch, standardizing workflows, and integrating them into our in-house systems to enable hands-off scalability.
Responsibilities

- →
Define accountability processes and audit mechanisms to track and reconcile subcontractor-held inventory.
- →
Coordinate warehouse staging activities for subcontractor material pick-up and return.
- →
Establish, manage, and coordinate stocking and replenishment for all Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs across new and existing metro markets.
- →
Own VMI kickoff for all new market launches in coordination with the warehouse standup team.
- →
Transition VMI and subcontractor inventory processes from hands-on coordination to standardized, automated workflows.
- →
Define and document requirements for integration with internal systems to support long-term scalability.
2–5 years of experience in supply chain operations, industrial engineering, inventory management, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated ability to build and manage VMI or consignment programs from scratch.
Strong organizational skills with a bias toward documentation, process clarity, and follow-through.
Experience working in or alongside field operations teams (e.g., construction, utilities, installation services).
Comfort with ERP or WMS platforms; able to translate operational needs into system requirements.
Analytical mindset—comfortable pulling data, identifying trends, and driving decisions from insights.
Ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment.
The Deployments Warehousing & Logistics team is responsible for the physical infrastructure that makes Base installs possible—managing warehouse locations, orchestrating inter-warehouse transfers, running final-mile logistics, and ensuring inventory accuracy across our internal systems. We solve the difficult, high impact problems that determine whether crews show up to job sites ready to work. Joining this team means owning processes that directly impact Base’s ability to scale and deliver on its mission.
Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.
First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.
Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.
Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.
Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.
Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.
Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.
Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.
