Overview of the Position
The Manager of Engagement is an ongoing, full-time leadership role responsible for overseeing the organization’s public-facing initiatives, including communications, events, outreach, sponsorships, and digital fundraising. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position plays a key role in strengthening ISCBC’s public presence, relationships, and long-term sustainability.
This role requires a collaborative and strategic professional with a successful background in communications and marketing and demonstrated experience in fund development, particularly donor relations and stewardship. The Manager of Engagement ensures that ISCBC’s work, impact, and values are communicated effectively across all platforms while fostering meaningful relationships with donors, partners, and stakeholders in support of organizational fundraising objectives. This role is ideal for a creative and community-minded leader who excels at storytelling, relationship-building, and multi-channel engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Engagement, Communications & Marketing
- Lead the development and implementation of an integrated communications strategy to support public awareness, program participation, and fundraising
- Ensure consistent, clear, and compelling messaging aligned with ISCBC’s mission, strategic plan, and brand
- Cultivate relationships with provincial and regional media outlets and manage media outreach, press releases, and key messaging for public announcements
- Oversee content development and storytelling that highlights program outcomes, partnerships, and impact
- Collaborate with managers and program teams to translate technical or complex work into accessible communications for diverse audiences
- Track, analyze, and report on engagement outcomes and key performance metrics to inform strategy and continuous improvement
Digital Fundraising and Sponsorship
- Provide leadership on donor engagement and stewardship, with a particular focus on cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation donors
- Develop and implement donor communication, recognition, and engagement strategies that support long-term relationships and donor retention
- Work closely with the Executive Director and leadership team to align engagement activities with fund development priorities
- Support donor reporting and communications that demonstrate impact, accountability, and value
Leadership & Management
- Provide leadership within the engagement portfolio, including direct supervision of staff and/or contractors as assigned
- Set strategic goals and objectives, monitor performance, and report on outcomes and impact
- Contribute to organizational planning, budgeting, and cross-departmental initiatives as a member of the management team
- Oversee event budgets, logistics, vendor contracts, and staffing
- Lead post-event evaluation and reporting
- Implement systems and practices that support staff development, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement, consistent with ISCBC’s Manager role expectations.
Education & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, engagement, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience in fund development and donor relations, preferably in a non-profit or mission-driven organization
- Proven ability to work strategically while delivering results at an operational level.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience tailoring messages to different audiences
- Experience managing people, projects, and competing priorities in a dynamic environment
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience in environmental, conservation, or public-interest organizations is an asset
Working Conditions
- This is an ongoing, full-time position based remotely within British Columbia
- This role requires reliable internet access and the ability to work effectively in a remote environment
- Occasional travel within British Columbia, and some evening or weekend work, may be required to support engagement activities and events
