Position Requirements:
Clinically evaluates and approves all admissions to the in-patient unit and outpatient programming in Behavioral Health and the Substance Use Divisions.
Provider counseling interventions, conduct assessments and evaluations, within the scope of practice, for the purpose of establishing goals and objectives.
Oversees staff in clinical assessment and evaluate, using currently accepted diagnostic classifications including, but not limited to, the DSM 5, for mental, emotional, behavioral and associated distresses which interfere with mental health and development.
Selecting, administering, scoring and interpreting instruments designed to assess an individual's aptitudes, attitudes, abilities, achievements, interests, personal characteristics, disabilities and mental, emotional and behavioral disorders. Use methods and techniques for understanding human behavior in relation to coping with, adapting to or changing life situations.
Assists individuals or groups through the counseling relationship to develop an understanding of intrapersonal and interpersonal problems, to define goals, to make decisions, to plan a course of action reflecting the client's needs, interests, and abilities, and to use informational and community resources as these methods are related to career development and adjustment and to mental, emotional, social, educational and existential issues.
In conjunction with Department Heads, directs and recommends the disposition of pending admissions from the Emergency Department as well as outside referral sources.
Explains agency operations to general public by explaining goals, services and regulations of the programs and occasionally gives prepared presentations to professional and/or lay groups on principles and/or programs of general interest in order to provide for public awareness and education.
Provides and supervises the work of program staff, developing and implementing psychosocial assessments, treatment and discharge plans.
Advises personnel on proper procedural methods for patient care services, staff scheduling, etc., by examining operations, interpreting needs, evaluating and explaining alternative procedural methods and making appropriate recommendations to facilitate efficient operations.
Develops and maintains a good working relationship with other members throughout the hospital.
Participates in the identification of suspected cases of child abuse or elder abuse and the reporting of alleged abuse to the appropriate agencies in conjunction with hospital policy.
In conjunction with the program psychiatrist and other treatment team members, coordinates the discussion and determination of the need to request PESP involvement in the evaluation of an active patient.
Conduct program reviews and identifies problem areas for quality improvement.
Oversees staffing plan, scheduling, and implement coverages during center hours.
Works with the referral sources to identify needs for specialty programs.
Ensure that staff are appropriately trained and referring patients to the most clinically appropriate programming.
Collaborates with leaderships in Behavioral Health and Substance Use division on referrals as well as any issues, challenges, or improvements in patient access.
Develops and submits the Performance Improvement Plan to the Chief Clinical Officer of Behavioral Health Services and Coordinator of PI. Collaborate with Performance Improvement Coordinator to develop and implement a performance improvement program for the program.
Collaborate with affiliated agencies, private agencies and hospitals, hospital inpatient staff, emergency room staff and the Psychiatric Emergency Screening Program (PESP),
Oversee patient admission and discharge in order to treat patients at the most appropriate level of care.
Participates in the development and implementation of marketing strategies.
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
Serves in assigned hospital committees and attends assigned management meetings.
Submits timely and accurate CQI+ outcome data on a weekly basis, including responsiveness to weekly feedback.
Performs other related duties as required.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in related field required, Master’s Degree preferred in a Mental Health discipline (i.e. Psychology, Counseling, Social Work). OR Master’s Degree in Psychiatric/ Mental Health Nursing
Licensure:
Current licensure specific to discipline.
Experience:
At least five years’ experience; at least two years in supervisory capacity. Three years of clinical experience shall have included the provision of mental health services to youth.
Additional Requirements:
CPR certification and completion of secure training class/NVCI. Knowledge of JCAHO/HCFA/OSHA, State and federal regulatory guidelines.
