About the Role

Brewing coffee is vital to what we do here at Blue Bottle Coffee, whether it be distinctly delicious cans of Cold Brew or our Nola and Iced Latte cartons. Our Production Brewer will execute our brewing process from roasted beans to the final product, working with our Brewery Team Lead, Brewery Leader,  and Production Team Members to not just maintain but elevate our quality standards. 

This is a full-time, hourly position requiring an onsite presence at our Gilman production facility. You will be a critical member of the production department, a team united by the basic love of producing great coffee. 

  • Work with our Brewery Team Lead in all brewing aspects including mashing, filtration, clean-in-place, and packaging. This includes weighing, grinding, mashing-in coffee in batches; graining out, filtering, and transferring coffee; pulling brew samples and quality control; supporting our canning runs, and more.
  • Perform Clean in Place procedures as directed on tanks, tuns, and canning machinery.
  • Create and manage extensive and scrupulous notes detailing accurate batch history and coffee metrics using Google Sheets or other available online record keeping tools.
  • Maintain our plumbing, canning, and brewing equipment, ensuring it’s in top form for all brewing needs and perform regularly scheduled maintenance on equipment.
  • Operate heavy machinery including electric power jacks and forklifts.
  • Participate in QC tastings and cuppings to develop and strengthen your palate.
  • Work packaging shifts regularly so that you engage in each step of the process. Support the production team when needed. 
  • Keep all work areas clean, organized, functional for you and your team.
  • Work within all specified Safety Guidelines, including the use of PPE where necessary.
  • Train and mentor Production Team Members. 
  • Follow and support all Food Safety, Quality, and Good Manufacturing Practices rules and regulations.
  • Passionate about coffee, your work, your team 
  • A perceptive multi-tasker, working with a sense of urgency and purpose to accomplish tasks efficiently and well
  • A collaborator at your core, you are a team player and flexible to changes as production demands shift
  • A curious troubleshooter, always looking to find a better solution
  • Empathetic and hospitable, always eager to listen, understand, learn, and field questions for your team and partners 
  • Working knowledge of basic hardware and tools 
  • Experience working in a fast paced environment (ideally in production)
  • Basic math and writing skills 
  • The ability to read and speak English proficiently
  • A minimum of one year of food and beverage manufacturing experience, preferably beverage brewing
  • Familiarity with Microsoft and Google software suites
  • Superb judgment and integrity, including excellent decision-making skills and a bias to action
  • Last but not least, a deep love for great coffee, food, and exceptional customer experience
  • The ability to stand, walk, sit for long periods of time (at least 8 hours per day and 5 days per week)
  • The use of hands to handle or feel and the ability to reach with hands and arms
  • The ability to stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • The ability to squat, bend, twist and reach for items below waist level or above shoulders
  • The ability to lift, push/pull, carry and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • The ability to listen and speak
  • The ability to climb ladders, stairs, ramps and uneven floor and/or surfaces as needed
  • The ability to have close visual acuity to perform repetitive visual checking, counting, spotting small defects, determine accuracy of numbers
  • This role takes place in a production warehouse environment and may involve exposure to environmental conditions, including elevated temperatures from roasting and processing equipment, mechanical noise, and cooler temperatures in storage areas.
