The Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is seeking the services of a skilled, qualified, and experienced individual to perform the duties of Assistant Director of Events Management within the Public Regulatory Affairs and Global Engagement (PRAaGE) Department.
The Assistant Director of Events Management provides strategic and operational leadership for the planning and delivery of a portfolio of events, locally and overseas, that support the regulator’s objectives and stakeholder engagement. This role works with internal and external partners to ensure events are delivered on time, on budget, securely, and in line with public-sector standards. The Assistant Director of Events Management leads programme delivery end-to-end, develops event staff, and drives continuous improvement across governance, accessibility, supplier management and evaluation.
• Leading the strategic planning and annual planning of local and international events, ensuring alignment with PRAaGE and CEO initiatives, the event plan, statutory duties, and stakeholder engagement strategy
• Overseeing end-to-end delivery of multiple concurrent events (in-person, hybrid and virtual), including governance approvals, timelines, run-of-show, production, registration, speaker management and post-event evaluation
• Managing event budgets and financial forecasting; ensuring value for money, transparent expenditure, tracking, and compliance with public-sector procurement requirements and financial controls
• Overseeing supplier and venue arrangement by sourcing, evaluating, negotiating with, contracting, and coordinating providers, including production, audiovisual, accessibility services, catering, security, travel and event technology, in accordance with procurement policy
• Developing and implementing event standards, templates, and playbooks that support consistent branding, neutrality, accessibility and inclusion, safeguarding, and a positive attendee experience across all event formats
• Leading event risk management, security, and compliance planning, including information governance, data protection, record-keeping, permits, insurance, and health and safety requirements, escalating issues as appropriate
• Collaborating with PRAaGE to develop accurate, clear, and plain-language event messaging and materials
• Building and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships with regulated entities, industry associations, government counterparts, and speakers, while applying appropriate VIP protocols and upholding impartiality and transparency
• Leading, coaching, and developing the events team by setting clear goals, allocating resources effectively, maintaining capability during peak periods, and promoting a culture of service, integrity and continuous improvement
• Implementing measurement and reporting processes, including attendee feedback, engagement metrics, equality/accessibility monitoring and lessons learned; using insights to improve event processes and inform stakeholder engagement strategy
• Maintaining an onsite presence at events to oversee delivery, applying stakeholder protocols, and ensuring compliance with security, accessibility, and health and safety requirements
Requirements
~2 min read• A master’s degree or equivalent qualifications in event management, communications, public administration, business, or a related field
• A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in events management, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities, such as leading an events team, managing suppliers, overseeing complex event delivery, or coordinating multiple workstreams
• Demonstrated experience managing budgets, contracts, and procurement in line with policy, audit requirements, and delegated authority frameworks
• Strong attention to governance, documentation and risk controls
• Experience in delivering in-person, hybrid and virtual events, including the use of event technology platforms, registration systems and accessibility solutions
• Strong programme and project management skills, with the ability to plan, coordinate, and deliver multiple event workstreams within agreed timelines, budget and governance requirements
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills with the ability to work professionally with senior leaders, regulated entities, government representatives, industry partners, speakers, suppliers and attendees
• Commercial procurement and contract management capability, including supplier performance monitoring, value-for-money assessment, and audit-ready record-keeping
• Proven people leadership skills with the ability to set clear expectations, coach team members, allocate resources effectively and maintain service standards during peak delivery periods
• High standards of integrity, professionalism, impartiality and discretion when handling sensitive matters and representing the Authority in external-facing settings and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify risks, escalate issues appropriately and respond effectively to operational, reputational, security and compliance matters
• Working knowledge of event production and operations, including run-of-show planning, accessibility, safeguarding, crowd management, security coordination and incident response
• Ability to use attendee feedback, engagement metrics, reporting, and lessons learned to evaluate event effectiveness and support continuous improvement
• This role may require occasional evening and weekend work during peak delivery periods, as well as travel to event sites locally and/or internationally
