JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Model best practices while working with a team of childcare providers in a mixed-age group (2–5-year-olds), implementing small group lessons for two-five-year-olds, and mentor high school students enrolled in the Child Development Professions CTE Program in a licensed childcare program.

 

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

 

  • Two years of experience working as a lead teacher primarily with preschoolers in a licensed childcare center

  • Meets Lead Teacher qualifications from MSDE

  • Must hold CURRENT MSDE Office of Child Care Personal Qualification Evaluation

  • Associate or higher degree or CDA preferred

 

ADDITIONAL TRAININGS

 

  • ADA Training or be willing to complete it within 90 days of hire 

  • Basic Health and Safety Trainings/Update or willing to complete within 90 days of hire

  • Medication Administration Training or willing to complete within 90 days of hire

  • Current First Aid and CPR certified

  • Completed Fingerprinting and Criminal Background Clearance 

  • Have medical form completed within the 6 months or complete within 90 days of hire

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Understands developmental stages and milestones from infancy through age twelve, major theories of child development, and how children learn.

  • Understands methods of assessment and observation techniques used to observe and evaluate children.

  • Understands inclusionary practices based on national standards and best practices in early childhood.

  • Understands the impact of health, nutrition, family, and parenting styles on child growth and development.

  • Understands the influence of culture and community on child development.

  • Understands the responsibilities of identifying and reporting incidents of child abuse and neglect.

  • Sufficient education to have basic skills in reading, record keeping, and arithmetic.

  • Demonstrated aptitude for successful performance of duties and responsibilities listed below.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with children, secondary students, and parents.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of adults in implementing the curriculum for young children.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with school personnel and students.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 
 

  • Participates in parent communication and occasional family events in the evening.

  • Maintains all MSDE Office of Childcare licensing requirements.

  • Mentors high school students (observations and feedback).

  • Implements Creative Curriculum Teaching Strategies & Second Step Social-Emotional Development.

  • Implements strategies for positive child guidance and disciples based on theory and best practices.

  • Proficient in computer usage.

  • Willing to work as a team member.

  • Flexible with hours and duties.

  • Willing to take initiative.

  • Communicates effectively with staff, high school students, parents, and children.

  • Understands and demonstrates professionalism.

  • Performs related duties as required by the Childcare Teacher/Principal.

  • Performs related duties as assigned by the manager.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
