Position Overview

The Solar Field Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the execution of solar installations from pre-construction through project completion. This role bridges field operations and project management, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to company quality standards.

This individual will work closely with the Solar Manager and Solar Coordinator to provide technical leadership, coordinate field crews, support project planning, manage materials and scheduling, and drive efficient project execution across multiple active projects.

The Solar Field Superintendent will also play a key role in field staff development by identifying training needs, supporting technician growth, maintaining manufacturer and safety training compliance, and helping ensure consistent field documentation and operational standards across all projects.



Key Responsibilities

Field Operations & Crew Management

  • Supervise and support installation crews across multiple solar projects
  • Coordinate daily field operations in collaboration with the Solar Manager
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with electrical codes, safety standards, AHJ requirements, and company procedures
  • Conduct site visits to monitor project progress, workmanship quality, productivity, jobsite organization, and overall installation standards
  • Troubleshoot installation, commissioning, and field-related technical issues
  • Assist with field labor planning and crew allocation based on project demands
  • Provide professional and customer-focused communication while interacting with homeowners, inspectors, utilities, and subcontractors



Project Execution & Coordination

  • Manage projects from mobilization through commissioning and closeout
  • Work closely with the Solar Manager and Solar Coordinator to coordinate schedules, subcontractors, inspections, permits, utility interconnections, material deliveries, and project logistics
  • Support project execution by identifying and proactively resolving project risks, delays, field conflicts, or documentation gaps
  • Assist with maintaining project timelines, installation quality, and overall project efficiency
  • Support customer communication related to scheduling, project readiness, inspections, and field coordination as needed
  • Provide field feedback to improve installation processes, project workflows, and jurisdiction-specific installation requirements



Technical Oversight

  • Review system designs, electrical layouts, and installation plans for constructability and field execution
  • Provide guidance on NEC compliance, AHJ requirements, equipment selection, and installation best practices
  • Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and system performance validation
  • Serve as a technical resource for field personnel and assist crews with complex installations or troubleshooting scenarios
  • Assist in developing and maintaining internal knowledge related to AHJ requirements, inspection expectations, and field best practices



Scheduling, Planning & Operations Support

  • Collaborate with the Solar Manager on project scheduling, manpower planning, operational coordination, and project readiness
  • Assist in tracking project milestones, labor utilization, installation progress, and field completion status
  • Help prioritize field activities to maintain project schedules and minimize downtime
  • Support operational planning and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Review and oversee field documentation, site photos, commissioning reports, and project closeout information submitted by field crews to ensure accuracy and completeness



Procurement & Materials Management

  • Coordinate material ordering, delivery, staging, and inventory for active projects
  • Ensure crews have the necessary tools, equipment, materials, and documentation to complete work efficiently
  • Work closely with suppliers, vendors, and internal teams to resolve shortages, damages, or delivery issues
  • Assist with material forecasting and job readiness planning



Training & Field Development

  • Assist in training and mentoring field technicians and crew leads
  • Identify skill gaps, performance issues, and training opportunities within field staff
  • Help develop and maintain field installation standards, quality expectations, and best practices
  • Coordinate and track manufacturer certifications, safety training, and continuing education requirements for field personnel
  • Support onboarding and development of new field employees



Quality & Safety

  • Enforce company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and jobsite safety expectations
  • Conduct jobsite safety meetings, inspections, quality control reviews, and follow-up corrective actions as needed
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship, documentation, organization, and installation consistency
  • Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, safety, customer service, and continuous improvement
