POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Unit Director
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Directs/manages overall daily operations of a Boys & Girls Club afterschool site with the primary concern for programs and service delivery, supervision and training of staff, facilities management, community relations and membership administration.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Leadership
1. Provide leadership and direction to staff and volunteers. Attend and participate in County meetings and keep open communication with Director of Operations.
2. Ensure an environment that facilitates achievement of Youth Development Outcomes, with overall responsibility for cleanliness, attractiveness and safety of properties and equipment.
3. Conduct regular staff meetings with site staff offering development and training opportunities.
Strategic Planning
4. Works with the Director of Operations in the implementation of the strategic plan for Club site programs, including the development of annual program objectives.
5. Ensures quality improvement of programs by conducting program evaluations and annual analysis of member needs and interests. Compiles monthly statistical reports reflecting all activities, attendance and participation.
Partnership Development
6. Represents the organization and interprets its objectives, standards and programs to potential collaborative partners.
Marketing and Public Relations
7. Promotes and stimulates membership within the Club site.
Technology
8. Ensures site is utilizing Member Tracking system.
9. Evaluates technology resources and keeps Director advised of any issues.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information. Has contact with members as needed to discipline, advise, and counsel.
External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize Club.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience
- A minimum of two years work experience in youth development
- Planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of youth.
- Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, facilities management, and the recruitment and retention of key personnel.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff.
- Ability to deal effectively with members discipline problems.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
