We inspire. * Job Title: Facilities Assistant * Pay Band – PB1 * Closing Date (Time) – 26th May 2026 * Location – Barcelona * Salary – EU 1,709.72 Monthly Gross Salary * Contract – Fixed Term Contract 3 months Purpose of job: To support the impact and reputation of the British Council Spain Barcelona Office by ensuring high-quality facilities that deliver excellent service to students, exam candidates, customers, staff, and visitors, while maintaining facilities to an optimum standard, presenting a positive image of the British Council and the UK, and ensuring the centre is fit for purpose and fully compliant with Health and Safety standards. Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties: Main Accountabilities: * Prepare teaching classrooms and shared spaces to support adult and young learner activities, including classroom setup, verification of furniture, audiovisual and IT equipment, and restocking of supplies in classrooms and back-office areas. * Provide logistical support for examinations and centre activities, including furniture setup for exam sessions, secure storage of exam materials in line with required security levels, and coordination of document transfer for destruction. * Carry out daily inspections of premises at c/ Amigó and c/ Rector Ubach, checking water, electricity, and gas installations, and ensuring spaces remain safe, functional, and well presented. * Undertake minor repairs and maintenance tasks, coordinating urgent technical interventions with external suppliers when required and reporting non-urgent issues to the Facilities Manager. * Manage incoming and outgoing materials and mail, including receipt, internal distribution, international mail stamping and posting, and transfer of materials to appropriate storage areas based on use. * Monitor and control stock of stationery, consumables, photocopy supplies, and basic maintenance materials, raising restocking requests as required. Manage and update generic inventories. * Support basic Health and Safety compliance by reporting monthly incidents, responding to emergencies such as first aid situations or fire alarms, carrying out minor legionella control operations, and acting as Fire Duty Officer Monday to Friday from 13.30 to 21:00. * Provide reception support and guidance to students, teachers, visitors, and contractors during late hours, contributing to a safe, secure, and welcoming environment. * Ensure security procedures are followed by closing and alarming offices and facilities from Monday to Friday in line with agreed schedules. * Undertake any other facilities-related duties assigned by the Facilities Manager that contribute to the smooth and effective operation of the centre. Role specific knowledge and experience Minimum/Essential: * Experience in a similar facilities, maintenance, or site support role, with a hands-on approach and the ability to carry out minor repairs, basic maintenance tasks, and day-to-day upkeep of premises and equipment. * Ability to identify maintenance issues and resolve minor faults independently, escalating more complex issues to managers or external suppliers when required. * Ability to work reliably during fixed schedules and extended opening hours, maintaining attention to detail and service quality. * Good communication and interpersonal skills, with experience providing support or assistance to staff, students, visitors, or service providers. Desirable: * Experience working in environments with high daily usage, such as educational centres, offices, or customer-facing facilities. * Experience managing stock and supplies, including consumables, stationery, and basic maintenance materials * Basic knowledge of Health and Safety requirements, including safe working practices, incident reporting, emergency response, and fire procedures Requirements: Please note that candidates must have the pre-existing, legal right to work in Spain.
