We are looking for an experienced HR Manager to lead and manage the full HR function for a growing, hands-on fabrication environment in Syracuse, NY. This is a great opportunity for a well-rounded HR professional who enjoys variety, takes ownership, and is comfortable being both a strategic leader and a hands-on problem solver.
The ideal candidate will have strong HR Generalist and management experience, preferably in a blue-collar, construction, manufacturing, fabrication, or skilled trades environment. This role requires someone who can confidently manage employee relations, compliance, benefits, policies, payroll support, performance management, safety-related HR processes, and day-to-day HR operations.
This is not a narrow HR role. We are looking for someone with a broad, multi-faceted HR background who can wear many hats, support employees at all levels, and serve as a trusted resource for leadership.
Responsibilities

- →Manage and oversee daily HR operations and the overall HR function.
- →Serve as the main HR point of contact for employees, managers, and company leadership.
- →Provide guidance on employee relations, workplace concerns, conflict resolution, corrective action, and policy interpretation.
- →Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- →Maintain and update employee handbooks, workplace policies, procedures, and HR documentation.
- →Manage employee records, personnel files, HR systems, and confidential information.
- →Oversee benefits administration, including enrollments, employee questions, changes, and vendor communication.
- →Support payroll-related processes, timekeeping, attendance tracking, and wage/hour compliance.
- →Manage performance management processes, employee reviews, documentation, disciplinary actions, and accountability procedures.
- →Support managers with employee coaching, documentation, communication, and consistent application of company policies.
- →Oversee leave management, including FMLA, disability, workers’ compensation, and other applicable leave programs.
- →Support workplace safety initiatives, incident reporting, OSHA-related documentation, and workers’ compensation claims.
- →Help promote a positive, professional, respectful, and productive workplace culture.
- →Develop, improve, and maintain HR processes that support company growth, compliance, and operational efficiency.
- →Provide HR reporting, compliance tracking, and recommendations to leadership.
- →Handle sensitive employee and business matters with professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
The right person for this role is experienced, practical, organized, and confident in managing a full HR department. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, blue-collar environment where priorities can shift and where HR plays an important role in supporting both employees and operations.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of HR Generalist and/or HR Management experience required.
- Prior experience managing an HR function, HR department, or broad HR operations required.
- Experience in a blue-collar, construction, manufacturing, fabrication, skilled trades, or similar industrial environment strongly preferred.
- Stone, countertop, or surfacing industry experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong knowledge of employee relations, employment law, HR compliance, benefits administration, payroll support, leave management, workers’ compensation, performance management, and workplace policies.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of the HR function.
- Strong judgment and the ability to handle sensitive situations professionally.
- Excellent communication, organization, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build trust with employees at all levels, from shop and field employees to senior leadership.
- Comfortable balancing strategic HR responsibilities with hands-on daily HR tasks.
- High level of professionalism, confidentiality, accountability, and follow-through.
