Role Overview

Location: Remote 

We are seeking a Senior Front-End Engineer (React Native & Expo) to join our growing engineering team and lead development of Burai’s cross-platform mobile and desktop applications. In this role, you’ll design and build a unified experience across mobile (iOS/Android), web, and desktop by leveraging React Native with Expo (including React Native Web) and Tauri. You will work on high-impact, user-facing features in a fast-paced startup environment, collaborating with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to create a consistent, high-quality UX on every device. This is a unique opportunity to work with modern technologies (Expo’s EAS build and OTA update ecosystem, GraphQL, TypeScript, etc.) while shaping how AI-powered productivity tools are delivered to users. Responsibilities 

• Develop and maintain Burai’s cross-platform React Native application for iOS, Android, web, and desktop, using Expo and Tauri to deliver a unified, responsive user experience. 

• Build features and UI components with React Native and Expo, ensuring polished, consistent interfaces while addressing platform-specific nuances. 

• Optimize app performance and reliability for each platform, ensuring smooth operation on mobile, fast loading on web, and efficient performance on desktop, with robust offline and error handling. 

• Integrate GraphQL and REST APIs, leveraging efficient data fetching and caching strategies (such as Apollo Client) within a TypeScript environment to support real-time updates. 

• Automate releases and deployments using Expo EAS and CI/CD pipelines, including over-the-air (OTA) updates and app store submissions for both mobile and desktop versions. 

• Ensure code quality through code reviews and mentorship, collaborating within agile teams to deliver features that meet user needs across all platforms. 

• Maintain security and compliance by implementing secure data storage, authentication mechanisms, and adhering to all relevant app store guidelines. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

• 5+ years software development; 3+ years Expo React Native mobile apps in production 

• Proven experience launching and maintaining complex React Native apps (iOS/Android) 

• Strong React Native & Expo skills; deep knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript, React Hooks, state management (Redux, Zustand), Expo workflows and SDKs 

• Built apps for both iOS and Android; understands UI/UX patterns and responsive design; bonus: React Native Web and Tauri experience 

• Designs scalable front-end; optimizes app performance (memory, rendering, caching), and solves platform-specific bugs 

• Integrates GraphQL (Apollo Client) and REST APIs; syncs data, handles real-time updates, manages offline/network issues 

• Skilled in Git, CI/CD, and deploying to App Store and Play Store; uses automated testing (Jest), debugging tools 

• Strong problem solver with ownership mindset; communicates well, mentors teammates, promotes best practices 

 

Preferred Experience (Nice-to-Have): 

 

• Native Modules: Experience with native iOS (Swift/Objective-C) or Android (Kotlin/Java), able to build or use native modules. 

• Expo Mastery: Skilled with Expo Application Services (EAS) for build, release, OTA updates; knowledgeable about Expo config plugins and advanced features. 

• Open-Source: Active in open-source projects in React Native/Expo; familiar with open-source community. 

• Additional Tech: Hands-on with GraphQL/Apollo, TypeScript at scale, web or desktop app development; knows mobile analytics, crash reporting, and performance tuning.
