About the Role:
As the Defence ICT Operations Lead in C4i Solutions, you will play a pivotal role in leading and maintaining critical Defence infrastructure and tools, enabling the development and maintenance of key capability. You will oversee the delivery of secure ICT operations across classified and unclassified environments in alignment with Australian Defence ICT policies, security frameworks, and operational directives, ensuring availability, resilience, and operational readiness of mission-critical systems.
This role is located onsite in Sydney, CBD.
About the Role
~2 min read- Oversee day-to-day ICT operations across Defence and Government environments, ensuring availability, resilience, and operational readiness of mission-critical systems.
- Lead, mentor, and coordinate technical teams, ensuring adherence to secure-by-design principles, Defence ICT standards, and operational best practices.
- Manage incident, problem, and change management processes in line with Defence security policies (ISM, PSPF, DSPF) to minimise downtime and operational impact.
- Develop, implement, and monitor ICT operational policies, procedures, and governance frameworks to maintain compliance and security across Defence systems.
- Coordinate with Defence stakeholders, system owners, and vendors to align ICT services with mission objectives and operational priorities.
- Monitor ICT performance metrics, produce executive-level reports, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational capability.
- Lead the delivery of secure ICT operations across classified and unclassified environments in alignment with Australian Department of Defence ICT policies, security frameworks, and operational directives.
- Ensure compliance with the Information Security Manual (ISM), Essential Eight, and Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF).
- Oversee 24/7 operational support for mission-critical systems, including incident, problem, and change management in accordance with ITIL best practices.
- Manage system availability, resilience, and continuity for Defence networks, including DR planning and testing in line with operational readiness requirements.
- Coordinate security operations, vulnerability management, and remediation activities across Defence-accredited platforms and gateways.
- Lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams (WINTEL, Linux, Network, Cyber, Service Desk) operating within secure facilities and restricted environments.
- Govern ICT service performance through SLA/KPI management, reporting to Defence stakeholders and Contract Authorities.
- Manage vendor and subcontractor performance, ensuring compliance with DISP requirements and Defence contractual obligations.
- Oversee configuration management and system baselining to maintain Defence accreditation status and Authority to Operate (ATO).
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, automation, and operational maturity uplift to support Defence transformation programs and capability delivery.
- Australian citizen (required for Defence projects) with a min AGSVA NV1 clearance, and able to work across ITAR. The ability to obtain a Negative Vetting 2 (NV2) security clearance is preferred.
- Experience working across enterprise Defence project environments.
- A BACH or other tertiary qualification relative to your role.
- Familiar with ISM, DSPF, PSPF.
- Experience with either ICT Systems Engineering, WINTEL, or Solutions Architecture 9Highly regarded).
- Communicates clearly and confidently, both written and verbal.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
- Builds positive relationships and manages stakeholders effectively.
- Works well independently and takes initiative.
- Can manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Adapts easily to change and works well in a team environment.
