Why Work Here
At ATCO, you’ll do meaningful work that supports the safe and reliable delivery of essential energy services. You’ll join a collaborative team, work with critical infrastructure and evolving technologies, and have opportunities to build your expertise through hands-on experience, challenging projects, and ongoing development within a culture grounded in safety, integrity, and caring.
About the Role
As Technologist, Operational Technology Infrastructure, you’ll play a key role in supporting the critical systems that help monitor and control ATCO’s natural gas operations. Reporting to the Supervisor, SCADA and Cyber Security, you will help deploy, administer, maintain, and continuously improve the operational technology infrastructure that underpins safe, reliable, and secure operations across the network, including hardware, software, servers, networks, communications, cyber security, and technical documentation.
This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong professional who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges in a mission-critical environment. You’ll work both independently and collaboratively to support major projects, enhance system performance and resilience, and contribute to the evolution of OT capabilities that are essential to the safe delivery of energy services.
What You’ll Do
Administer and support SCADA and operational technology systems that enable safe, reliable monitoring and control of the natural gas transmission network.
Maintain and optimize OT infrastructure, including servers, workstations, databases, applications, and supporting software.
Support OT cyber security, change management, and system reliability by implementing controls, monitoring performance, and ensuring changes are thoroughly reviewed and tested.
Contribute to capital and operations projects by providing technical input, reviewing designs, supporting deployments, and helping transition solutions into production.
Help manage core OT services such as networking, identity and access management, backup and disaster recovery, and health monitoring.
Develop or use scripts, reports, and automation tools to improve system administration, troubleshooting, and operational reporting.
What You Bring
Diploma in Computer Engineering Technology or another related technical diploma, combined with relevant experience in operational and information technology system administration.
ASET certification as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) is required.
Strong experience supporting critical infrastructure and SCADA systems, ideally within utility or oil and gas operations.
Technical expertise in Windows system administration, Active Directory, client-server environments, relational databases including Microsoft SQL Server, and object-oriented programming.
Experience with requirements gathering, detailed design, implementation planning, troubleshooting, and support of high-availability OT and IT systems.
Hands-on experience implementing, configuring, and maintaining technologies such as virtualization, cyber security, networking, and disaster recovery.
Knowledge of RTUs, PLCs, DCS, telecommunications, coding languages, and application databases would be considered an asset.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills, along with sound judgment, initiative, and responsible work habits.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license and use of a personal vehicle are required, along with periodic travel to sites and availability for 24-hour emergency callout support.
Must be able to obtain Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) background check clearance and actively support ATCO’s safety, environmental, values, and industry compliance expectations.
This position is safety-sensitive and has additional pre-employment requirements as identified in the Alcohol & Drug Policy.
