Are you interested in a position that supports the federal Judiciary’s mission of ensuring equal justice under the law? This is an entry-level position with room for growth for a college graduate interested in a career in public service and court operations. The Docketing Unit, U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, is seeking talented Case Administrator(s) to join our team. The court may be hiring more than one candidate at this time.

  • This position reports to the Operations Supervisor in the San Francisco Clerk’s Office.
  • The incumbent may be assigned to the case opening/orders group. Case opening/orders clerk responsibilities include opening new appeals and petitions in the court, reviewing lower court and agency dockets and records, setting schedules for the cases, sending initial case information to the parties, filing orders, updating the dockets, and serving orders on the parties.
  • Responsible for other administrative and customer service tasks such as answering telephone calls and emails from the public and scanning documents.
  • Position is a minimum two-year commitment.

High School graduation or equivalent, plus two years of general work experience in the above representative duties and:

  • Working knowledge of Windows-based and browser-based applications; proficiency and experience with email, word processing applications and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment; demonstrated, proactive, problem-solving approach and critical thinking skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong customer service ethic; ability to understand and apply established rules and procedures; flexibility, strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Prior legal experience, familiarity with legal concepts and documents.
  • Spanish Speaker.

Salary*: Depending on qualifications and experience, $50,438 to $62,554 (CL 23/1 to CL 23/24)

Time off: 13 vacation days; 13 sick leave days; 11 paid holidays
