Reporting to the Coordinator - Emergency Response, the Emergency Response Team and Safety Advisor (ERTS Advisor) is responsible for implementing and maintaining the site Emergency Response Plans and Programs.  In addition to emergency response needs, the ERTS Advisor is responsible for the executing and implementation of occupational health and safety programs. The Safety Advisor serves as a coordinator for safety and conducts inspections and audits.  The ERTS Advisor is an advocate for the health and safety of all employees, contractors and visitors and will assist in the site achieving it’s KPI’s and improvement needs.

Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On – Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

Responsibilities

  • Assessing the site and the Mine Rescue Team to ensure it is aligned with potential emergency situations identified through risk assessment and analysis.
  • Oversee Mine Recue call outs and assist as requested / needed.
  • Participate in MRT during emergency incidents, participate in Investigations, Inspections, Incident Action Plans.
  • Developing, maintaining, & facilitate Emergency response awareness and any associated safety training as required·         Maintaining records
  • Providing emergency services but not limited to, medical, rescue (confined space, high angle, trench, ice, surface water,); hazardous material response, fire response, geotechnical emergencies, vehicle / equipment accidents and other related emergency services.
  • Conduct inspection and audits of life saving equipment, AED’s, fire extinguishers, emergency showers / eye wash stations, etc.
  • Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing BW Golds safety standards, procedures, and safety systems.
  • Enter data into safety data system(s)
  • Assists in the maintenance and creation of safety standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains records and documentation for health and safety programs.
  • Remains up to date on all safety related regulations and codes
  • Assists in the implementation of new systems or improvements to existing systems; monitors effectiveness, taking best practice principles into account (e.g., equipment, noise, and personal protective clothing, etc.)
  • Advises and assists in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and accident prevention.
  • Ensures all health, safety, and environmental policies, and rules and regulations are posted in designated areas.
  • Reviews Field Level Hazard Assessment (FLHA) cards for quality and compliance with the FLHA program; identifies workers needing additional guidance or training to improve the quality of hazard assessment, incident, and risk mitigation.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years of Emergency Response, in particular Mine Rescue
  • Safety Advisory experience in the mining industry
  • Valid Level 3 Occupational First Aid ticket or equivalent would be an asset.
  • Minimum of Basic First Aid
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams
  • ICS 100, (200 & 300 would be considered an asset)
  • Experience working with the Incident Command System.
  • A valid class 3 or 4 driver's license.
  • BC Surface Mine Rescue certification preferred.
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter Professional Standard Certification or NFPA 1081 Incipient and Advanced Exterior would be an asset.
  • NFPA 1072 Hazmat Operations or Technician would be an asset
  • NFPA 1006 Confined Space Rescue would be an asset
  • NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor Certification (Level 1) would be an asset
  • NFPA 1002 Apparatus Driver Operator Certification (Preferred)
  • Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation.
  • Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • May be required to maintain a clean-shaven appearance (i.e. no facial hair) to ensure the safe and effective use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) associated with assigned duties.
  • Abilty to work nightshift. 
  • Ability to act with integrity, good judgment, and discretion.
