CAS is currently seeking a part-time PhD in AI Research for Science. This is a 6-month placement at our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.
This part-time position is designed for PhD students in the chemical, biological, biomedical, physical, and materials sciences, with a strong interest in applying AI methods to solve challenging scientific problems. The position will contribute to innovation and discovery efforts aligned with the CAS product portfolio and their own area of scientific expertise to advance AI for science, working under the mentorship of a CAS technical expert who provides regular feedback and guidance.
- Contribute to innovation and discovery efforts in AI for science
- Conduct literature review and technical landscape analysis in the assigned problem area
- Contribute to the design, build, and iteration of prototypes or models
- Validate outputs and findings with CAS domain experts
- Document methodology, results, and recommendations in a formal technical report
- Present findings to the CAS technical team
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
~1 min read- Currently pursuing a PhD in a relevant discipline, such as chemistry, biology, biomedical science, physics, materials science, or cheminformatics
- Strong interest in applying AI and machine learning methods to problems across the sciences
- Experience with Python or R, and SQL
- Ability to work through ambiguous technical problems with guidance from CAS mentors
- Demonstrated analytical, multi-tasking, problem solving, and planning skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing
- Ability to work effectively in an open, agile environment as well as independently
- Experience working with chemistry, life science, and/or materials science data preferred, but not required
