Reports To: Corporate Warehouse & Distribution Leadership

A growing, established organization in the building products and distribution industry is seeking an experienced Distribution Center / Warehouse Manager to lead the operations of a key distribution facility.

This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role with responsibility for warehouse operations, distribution, delivery, safety, service, quality, productivity, and cost performance. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable developing people and improving processes as they are spending time on the warehouse floor ensuring the operation performs at a high level.

This opportunity is well suited for an operations leader who enjoys taking ownership of a facility, building strong teams, solving problems, and creating measurable improvements.

Responsibilities

~1 min read
  • Provide overall leadership for warehouse, distribution, and delivery operations at a single location.
  • Establish and maintain a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with applicable workplace requirements.
  • Lead daily operations to achieve service, quality, productivity, and cost objectives.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels while effectively managing labor and operating expenses.
  • Hire, train, coach, develop, and evaluate employees and frontline leaders.
  • Build a positive, accountable workplace culture focused on employee engagement, performance, and retention.
  • Take a hands-on approach to operations and ensure productivity schedules and performance goals are consistently achieved.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve productivity, workflow, quality, and operating costs while reducing scrap and rework.
  • Support short- and long-range operational planning and recommend initiatives that improve operational excellence.
  • Partner closely with sales, administration, and other functional teams to deliver outstanding customer service.
  • Help resolve customer and operational issues and occasionally visit job sites when needed.
  • Coordinate programs related to safety, training, housekeeping, security, cost reduction, and employee involvement.
  • Lead facility improvement projects, including layout changes, equipment installations, and major repairs.
  • Ensure policies, procedures, and performance expectations are clearly communicated throughout the operation.

Requirements

~1 min read
  • 5+ years of manufacturing, warehouse, distribution, or operations management experience, ideally within a process-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading warehouse/distribution teams and delivering measurable operational results.
  • Strong hands-on leadership style with the willingness to be actively engaged in day-to-day operations.
  • Proven ability to hire, coach, develop, and hold employees and leaders accountable.
  • Strong understanding of safety, productivity, quality, cost control, and customer service.
  • Experience with production scheduling, continuous improvement, or lean manufacturing principles strongly preferred.
  • Building products, construction materials, fabrication, or a related industry background is a plus.
  • Familiarity with construction methods and hand tools is beneficial.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, conflict-management, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Postsecondary education in Management, Business, Industrial Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Ability to work effectively in office, warehouse, fabrication, and occasional job-site environments.
  • Minimal travel may be required.

This role offers the opportunity to own the performance of an important distribution operation while having the resources and support of a larger organization.

The manager will have meaningful influence over how the facility operates—from developing the team and improving safety to increasing productivity, reducing costs, and strengthening customer service. Rather than managing exclusively from an office, this leader will have the opportunity to be close to the operation, identify opportunities firsthand, and see the impact of improvements.

For an operations professional who enjoys building teams, creating accountability, improving processes, and delivering measurable results, this is an opportunity to take on significant responsibility and make a visible impact within a growing organization.
