Senior Middle Market Underwriting Manager

As a Senior Middle Market Underwriting Manager, you will lead, develop, and coach a high-performing Middle Market underwriting team - fulfilling Central’s promise through strong agency partnerships and disciplined risk selection. You’ll set territory strategy, collaborate seamlessly across functions, and drive profitable, sustainable growth.   Key Responsibilities of the Role • Proactively perpetuates the culture, embraces our core values, welcomes diverse perspectives to foster innovation, and works appropriately across departments and across offices to accomplish the corporate objectives and priorities• Directly manages all Middle Market Underwriting teams in assigned Region to achieve established objectives in accordance with established policies and procedures• Communicates strategy and priorities to team by setting expectations and holding team accountable• Responsible for the ongoing management of staff by attracting talent, setting clear direction, providing appropriate guidance, managing performance, recognizing contributions and developing capabilities• Apply territory and strategic knowledge to inform state line of business rate changes• Leads, develops, and mentors leaders and individuals on the team• Meet budget, make assigned agency visits, and assist with appointment process• Exercise highest level of authority in region dictating final stance on underwriting decisions• Responsible for department’s technical file handling, service standards, and project management• Achieve profitable results or define plan for region• Achieve written premium volume considering retention, RCOR, hit ratio, and new business or define plan for region• Assign appropriate projects to staff and monitor accountability for execution• Travel to assigned agents which will include occasional overnight Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and 6 years Middle Market Underwriting experience including 1 year of managementexperience• Or 8 years of Middle Market Underwriting experience including 1 year of management experience Preferred Qualifications • Successful completion of one or more professional designations such as CPCU, CIC, etc. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Understanding of leadership skills, including coaching, team-building, and conflict resolution• Knowledge of Middle Market Underwriting coverages and policies in assigned states• Ability to professionally interact with our customers• Ability to investigate, gather facts and information, and analyze coverage• Understand the importance of capturing data• Possess an innovative and continuous improvement mindset• Possess a positive, professional, cooperative, and quality-conscious service attitude• Ability to work under pressure, deal with interpersonal conflict, and handle a heavy workload• Possesses analytical and problem-solving skills• Possesses verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation, presentation, and influence skills• Ability to understand Central Insurance’s policies and processes• Ability to travel to assigned agents including occasional overnight Total Rewards Central establishes base pay based on several factors including labor market data and an evaluation of candidate qualifications relative to role requirements.
