The Chrysos commitment and mission:

Here at Chrysos we combine science and software to create technology solutions that are changing the global mining industry; both from a productivity and environmental impact perspective.

Just like atoms and machines, we believe that everyone is different and how individuals come together is what makes us successful. Headquartered in Adelaide and with team members based in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa, Canada, Chile and North America, Chrysos Corporation’s diverse team of scientists, engineers and industry specialists are coming together to build technologies to provide rapid, accurate and safe ore analysis for the global mining industry.

The company’s flagship technology, PhotonAssay™, steps around centuries-old chemistry-based assay methods to deliver true ‘atom-counting’ analysis for the measurement of gold and other high-value metals. With successful global installations, Chrysos is taking PhotonAssay™ to customers around the world – Chrysos could take you to places that you might not have even imagined yet. There’s opportunity around every corner and the support to help you achieve your goals.

About the role:

The Physicist / Engineer – Accelerator Systems contributes to the development of next-generation electron linear accelerator systems supporting Chrysos technologies and future analytical platforms.

The role focuses on assisting with the specification, integration, testing, and commissioning of accelerator subsystems and associated instrumentation. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering and physics team, the successful candidate will contribute to experimental development activities, system performance investigations, technical documentation, and component evaluation.

This role is ideally suited to an early-career physicist or engineer with strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills, an interest in complex physical systems, and a willingness to apply their knowledge across new disciplines.

Prior experience in accelerator systems is desirable but not essential. Chrysos is seeking motivated candidates with strong technical foundations who are eager to learn and contribute across physics, electronics, RF systems, controls, instrumentation, and system integration activities.

What you will do:

Execution of Technical Work Packages and Projects

  • Deliver clearly defined technical tasks and project activities under guidance from senior team members.
  • Contribute to project milestones through timely, high-quality technical outputs and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental work, test results, configurations, and technical decisions.
  • Support laboratory, integration, and commissioning activities including preparation, execution, troubleshooting, and reporting.
  • Assist with coordination of technical activities involving internal teams, suppliers, and external collaborators.

System Integration, Testing and Technical Support

  • Support integration and testing of accelerator subsystems and associated instrumentation.
  • Assist in execution of verification, validation, and commissioning activities.
  • Contribute to troubleshooting, fault investigation, and root-cause analysis activities.
  • Support development and maintenance of technical procedures, test plans, and commissioning documentation.
  • Work safely and effectively with complex electrical, RF, high-voltage, and radiation-producing systems under established procedures and supervision.

Technical Reporting and Communication

  • Prepare technical reports, test summaries, procedures, and internal documentation.
  • Communicate technical findings clearly to multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Participate in technical reviews, project meetings, and planning discussions.
  • Contribute to maintaining traceability, reproducibility, and technical quality across project activities.

 Accelerator System Development and Innovation

  • Contribute to the development of next-generation electron linear accelerator systems and associated technologies.
  • Assist in specifying, evaluating, and selecting accelerator components and supporting systems.
  • Contribute to subsystem integration across electrical, RF, controls, software, and mechanical interfaces.
  • Support investigations into system performance, reliability, and optimisation opportunities.
  • Apply existing technical knowledge to new disciplines and emerging technical challenges.

Experimental Investigation and Technical Problem Solving

  • Contribute to experimental programs and technical investigations relating to accelerator system performance.
  • Analyse experimental and operational data to support system understanding and improvement.
  • Assist in development of test methods, analysis tools, and experimental techniques.
  • d. Support evaluation of new technologies, concepts, and approaches relevant to Chrysos systems.

Who you are:

Essential

  • A tertiary qualification in physics, electrical or electronic engineering, mechatronics or control systems engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 2–5 years’ experience in a relevant technical, engineering, or research environment (including postgraduate study).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in complex technical systems and experimental development.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly for technical documentation and reporting.
  • Willingness to learn new technical disciplines and apply existing skills in unfamiliar areas.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.

Experience or exposure in one or more of the following areas:

  • Electron linear accelerators or accelerator systems.
  • RF systems and electronics.
  • High-voltage systems.
  • High-vacuum systems.
  • Instrumentation and control systems.
  • Electrical or electronic system integration.
  • Experimental physics or laboratory testing.
  • Systems engineering or complex technical system development.
  • Data acquisition and signal analysis.
  • Scientific programming or scripting (e.g. Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar).
  • Technical supplier coordination or component evaluation.

Familiarity with:

  • Test and measurement equipment.
  • Technical drawings and specifications.
  • Structured problem-solving and fault-finding approaches.
  • Safety processes associated with high-energy or high-voltage systems.
