About the role:
The Radiation Compliance Specialist will perform three essential functions:
- Obtaining pre-operational radiation regulatory approvals required for the installation, commissioning and operation of new PhotonAssay™ systems in North and South America
- Providing ongoing radiation safety, compliance and operational support to PhotonAssay™ users in the Americas region
- Supporting the rapidly growing global fleet of PhotonAssay™ systems by ensuring the implementation of critical global safety and compliance programs and initiatives
The Radiation Compliance Specialist is responsible for providing essential radiation licensing, safety, and compliance support to Chrysos operations in North and South America in the role of Regional Radiation Safety Officer – Americas.
The Radiation Compliance Specialist is also responsible for the execution and assurance of key elements of Chrysos Corporation’s global radiation safety and compliance management system.
What you will do:
New Unit Licensing and Deployment Support
- Assist the Radiation Compliance Manager in preparing and submitting complex, multi-stage radiation license applications to regulatory authorities in Canada, the United States, and across Latin America
- Assist with the development and translation of new documentation for radiation licensing and ongoing regulatory compliance
- Interact daily with the Americas deployment team and clients to support the installation and commissioning of new PhotonAssay™ sites in the Americas region
Regional Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) - Americas
- Be a champion of safety and compliance in the Americas region by motivating a remote and culturally-diverse team work safely and to a high standard
- Ensure the Chrysos Radiation Management System is implemented at Chrysos-licenced PhotonAssay™ locations in the Americas region
- Facilitate and support regulatory inspections and internal audits of PhotonAssay™ systems in the Americas region
- Support the response, reporting and prompt resolution of radiation incidents, non-compliances and emergencies in the Americas region
- Represent the Americas region in the Chrysos Radiation Safety Committee
- Coordinate the approval and implementation of changes and upgrades to PhotonAssay™ system product design, license conditions and documentation
- Effectively understand and communicate the radiation-related hazards and controls associated with the use of PhotonAssay™ technology, and the management arrangements in place to ensure safety and compliance
Global Radiation Safety and Compliance Support
- Work effectively with a motivated, agile and geographically diverse team to support global Chrysos operations
- Own and deliver assigned programs and tasks within the Chrysos Radiation Compliance Team and Chrysos Radiation Management System
- Maintain accurate compliance records, including licensing, calibration, and audit documentation
- Implement new programs and initiatives that contribute to the continuous improvement and scalability of the Chrysos Radiation Management System
General
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams, regulators, and external stakeholders
- Work closely with Deployment, Maintenance, Product Improvement, Finance, and Production teams to ensure compliant operations and development activities
- Support site-based Chrysos Radiation Safety Officers with regulatory documentation, audit preparation, and compliance activities
- Provide radiation compliance advice and support to internal stakeholders and project teams
- Contribute to the development of radiation safety training materials and LMS content
- Contribute to incident investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
Who you are:
Essential
- A relevant tertiary degree in a STEM subject, quality management, project management, or similar
- Experience in quality, compliance, safety, regulatory assurance or project management in a highly regulated scientific or technical industry
- Experience building and maintaining positive relationships with external stakeholders
- Ability to travel to the United States of America, and remote overseas locations to support installations and inspections
- Ability to balance both independent and collaborative work
- Ability to independently manage multiple, simultaneous projects, each with unique requirements and timeframes
- Ability to rapidly learn and communicate effectively on various aspects of PhotonAssay™ technology including site-based operations, radiation physics and the safety-based design
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with culturally diverse team members and external stakeholders
- Flexibility to work daily with team members located in North America, South America and Australia
- Familiarity with radiation protection principles, radiation-producing equipment, and relevant regulatory frameworks, or willingness to develop this knowledge through training
- Professional fluency in English and Spanish (native or equivalent) including the contexts of physics and engineering
- Canadian permanent residency or citizenship (or equivalent working rights)
Desirable
- Experience working with ionizing radiation, especially as a Radiation Safety Officer
- Experience developing and managing external relationships, especially government bodies, in Latin America
- Knowledge of radiation regulatory frameworks, environmental health and safety frameworks, or business management systems and management system standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001)
