Overview
Citi is a world‑leading global bank with more than 200 million customer accounts across over 160 countries and jurisdictions. We partner with institutions, corporations, governments, and investors to deliver innovative financial solutions, deep liquidity access, and market‑leading execution capabilities.
We are seeking a senior, globally minded FIX Engineering Leader to head our Global Client Onboarding function within the Equities Electronic Technology organization. This role is designed for a 15+ year industry expert who brings strategic vision, hands‑on FIX domain expertise, and proven experience leading large, distributed, high‑performing teams in complex, regulated, front‑office environments.
This role is not purely operational. It is a platform leadership position, responsible for shaping the future of Citi’s client connectivity landscape, modernizing FIX capabilities, driving engineering excellence, and proactively partnering with business and technology leaders to enable growth across global markets.
What We do / The Team
The Global FIX Engineering Team owns client onboarding, certification, connectivity, and FIX gateway integration across Citi Markets, supporting Equities, Futures & Options, and Rates businesses globally.
The team provides 24x5 follow‑the‑sun coverage through technology hubs in Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore, Pune, New York, and London, enabling seamless global client connectivity and world‑class service.
This role offers unparalleled exposure across asset classes, regions, and client segments, and sits at the intersection of front‑office trading, client technology, infrastructure, and strategic platform transformation.
Role Overview/What will you do:
Global Leadership & Strategy
* Provide strategic and hands‑on leadership to a globally distributed team of ~16 senior FIX Engineers.
* Own the global FIX connectivity strategy, ensuring scalability, resilience, performance, and alignment with Citi’s broader electronic trading and execution roadmap.
* Serve as the FIX Connectivity Subject Matter Authority for senior stakeholders across Business, Markets Technology, Architecture, and Operations.
* Drive a proactive, forward‑looking agenda—anticipating business needs, market evolution, and regulatory or technology shifts.
Client Connectivity & Market Enablement
* Oversee end‑to‑end client onboarding and certification across FIX gateways, venues, EMS/OMS providers, and third‑party networks.
* Act as a trusted technology partner to tier‑1 global clients, software vendors, and internal trading desks.
* Ensure consistent, high‑quality client experience across regions and asset classes.
Platform Modernization & Transformation
* Lead the migration of clients from legacy platforms to Citi’s strategic execution and connectivity platform.
* Champion engineering efficiency, automation, standardization, and reuse across the FIX domain.
* Partner with Architecture, Development, and Infrastructure teams to evolve connectivity patterns, testing frameworks, and operational resilience.
Execution, Delivery & Operational Excellence
* Own prioritization, planning, certification, and production release governance for global FIX initiatives.
* Provide 2nd‑line expertise for complex FIX and client connectivity issues, setting engineering standards for troubleshooting and incident management.
* Drive strong controls, documentation, monitoring, and operational maturity across all FIX services.
Stakeholder & Relationship Management
* Build deep, influential relationships across Front Office, Sales & Trading, Technology, QA, Production Support, and External Vendors.
* Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and confidently to senior business and technology leadership.
* Represent FIX Engineering at senior forums, steering committees, and cross‑organizational initiatives.
Required Experience & Expertise:
Mandatory
* Minimum 10+ years of hands‑on FIX Engineering experience, including global team leadership in a front‑office or client‑facing environment.
* Recognized Subject Matter Expert in FIX Protocol (multi‑asset preferred).
* Strong understanding of Equities and Futures & Options electronic trading, market access, and client connectivity.
* Extensive experience leading FIX client onboarding, certification, and production support at scale.
* Solid grounding in networking fundamentals, latency considerations, and production connectivity models.
* Proven track record delivering complex, multi‑region technology initiatives.
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with confidence operating at senior leadership level.
* Experience driving platform modernization, migration, or large‑scale connectivity transformation.
* Hands‑on exposure to EMS/OMS platforms and third‑party networks such as Fidessa, Bloomberg, NYFIX, TradingScreen, ITG, etc.
Leadership & Personal Attributes
* Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into execution.
* Proactive and decisive, comfortable operating in ambiguous, fast‑moving environments.
* Strong people leader with a passion for mentoring senior engineers and building global teams.
* Excellent stakeholder management, adept at influencing across functions, cultures, and seniority levels.
* Highly analytical with strong problem‑solving and prioritization skills.
* Delivery‑focused, accountable, and resilient under pressure.
Development & Growth Opportunity
This role offers a rare opportunity to:
* Shape the global FIX connectivity strategy of one of the world’s leading financial institutions.
* Work directly with front‑office trading and sales leadership on mission‑critical client initiatives.
* Play a key role in Citi’s electronic trading modernization journey.
* Build and lead a high‑impact global engineering organization with visibility at the highest levels of Markets Technology.
