Role Summary


The Financial Manager, Kenya is responsible for day-to-day financial operations of the Kenya entity, including bookkeeping, invoicing, reconciliations, debt collection, cash flow monitoring, payroll, and statutory tax compliance.


The role acts as the primary finance liaison between the Kenya operation and the Mauritius management team, ensuring

accurate, timely, and compliant financial records.


Note: This role is operational/bookkeeping focused rather than strategic treasury or capital-markets finance. Treasury management is explicitly excluded.


Key Responsibilities


1. Accounting & Bookkeeping

  • Maintain day-to-day books of account (general ledger, journals, chart of accounts)
  • Process invoicing (issuing customer invoices, tracking payment status)
  • Perform bank, supplier, and customer reconciliations
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules
  • Process employee expense claims and petty cash management


2. Debt & Cash Management

  • Chase outstanding debts/overdue receivables and manage collections
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts and short-term cash planning
  • Monitor working capital and flag shortfalls proactively
  • Manage day-to-day banking relationships (payments, transfers, mandates) excludes treasury/investment management
  • Monitor FX movements (KES vs. USD/MUR) affecting intercompany transactions and flag material exposure to Mauritius management
  • Manage vendor/supplier contracts and payment terms
  • Manage inventory/stock reconciliation (if physical goods are involved)
  • Coordinate insurance renewals (business, professional indemnity, etc.)


3. Tax & Statutory Compliance (Kenya)

  • Prepare and file VAT returns
  • Prepare and file PAYE, NSSF, NHIF/SHIF returns
  • Manage corporate income tax computations and filings with KRA (iTax)
  • Handle withholding tax (WHT) compliance
  • Maintain KRA Tax Compliance Certificate and respond to KRA queries/audits
  • Ensure compliance with Kenya Companies Act filing requirements (Registrar of Companies annual returns, etc.)
  • Coordinate and support year-end external audit fieldwork (not just liaison)
  • Renew business permits and sector specific licenses (county and national level)
  • Ensure compliance with Kenya’s Data Protection Act where customer/financial data is handled
  • Own and maintain a statutory compliance calendar covering all KRA, NSSF, NHIF/SHIF and Registrar deadlines


4. Reporting & Group Liaison

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and reporting packs for Mauritius management
  • Provide variance analysis (budget vs. actual)
  • Coordinate and provide input into annual budget preparation, even where final budget sits with Mauritius
  • Liaise with Mauritius team on intercompany transactions/recharges
  • Support group consolidation requirements as needed
  • Respond to ad hoc information requests from Mauritius/group finance


5. Payroll & HR-Adjacent

  • Process monthly payroll and statutory payroll deductions
  • Ensure compliance with local employment related statutory obligations

 

6. Systems & Controls

  • Maintain and operate the group’s accounting systems: Microsoft Dynamics 365
  • Business Central and Xero
  • Maintain basic internal controls over invoicing, payments, and approvals
  • Maintain document/record retention per Kenyan statutory requirements


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA(K) or equivalent professional qualification
  • 5+ years’ experience in accounting/finance roles, ideally in Kenya with cross-border reporting exposure
  • Strong working knowledge of KRA iTax system and Kenyan statutory filing requirements
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Business Central and/or Xero preferred
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Strong communication skills for liaising with an overseas management team
