Corteva Agriscience is seeking a Field Scientist to join our Biotech Trait Characterization and Development team. We are seeking a motivated professional to conduct field experiments with GMO crops and/or crop protection products to answer key project questions and support biological characterization in Indianópolis/MG (Brazil).
Purpose: The primary purpose of this role is to conduct, manage, and deliver high quality field trials that generate reliable data for regional and global R&D decisions. This position combines technical field operations with scientific trial management, focusing on high quality execution, accurate data acquisition, and timely reporting.
The Field Scientist will contribute directly to our pipeline by ensuring that trials are established correctly, managed with care, evaluated rigorously, and documented with precision. Field Scientist will collaborate with Principal Biologists, Project Scientists and field station staff to ensure flawless trial delivery.
Interacts with: Trait characterization project scientists, principal biologists, trait characterization regional field leaders, Seed Product Development (SPD) team members, statisticians, regulatory scientists, global biology leaders in seeds, and product stewardship personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
• Execute the field work plan for biotechnology research projects throughout the growing season, working directly with Technical Assistants, Agricultural Technicians, SPD team, Interns, and other employees;
• Plan and coordinate the field and laboratory work plan for biotechnology research projects throughout the growing season, establishing partnerships with regional research leaders (Principal Biologist, TCD Project Scientists and TCD Field Leaders);
• Establish partnerships with consultants, influencers, researchers and their Educational or Research Institutions in the public sector at the regional level, with these stakeholders participating in characterization and positioning activities;
• Report information generated internally or through contracts with third-party companies into Corteva’s official Biotech databases in a timely manner, so the information can be used in project advancement decision-making;
• Manage contracts with consultants, influencers, researchers, and their Educational or Research Institutions in the public sector at the regional level, ensuring that invested resources are converted into reliable and useful information for Corteva;
• Conduct field research studies in accordance with the technical and quality standards established by CIBio/Corteva and CTNBio, as well as comply with the requirements and parameters described in the Permits (LPMAs) to be implemented;
• Conduct field research studies involving new agrochemicals in accordance with the technical standards established by IN42/MAPA and generate official technical reports on efficacy studies in compliance with the Ministry’s requirements for registration purposes;
• Representing the Research and Development team on local recommendation committees and at other events requiring representation of Corteva’s technical groups;
• Support technical leaders in the knowledge transfer process from the Research and Development team to the Agronomy, Marketing, Sales, and other teams.
• Maintain safe working practices and follow all relevant guidelines for field work.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies and Experience Required:
• All applicants must have advanced training and experience in plant sciences research. A Ph.D. degree in either Entomology, Plant Pathology, Weed Science, Agronomy Sciences, Crop Physiology, Plant Breeding and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry related experience is desired.
• Knowledge and experience conducting regulated field trials under field conditions is a must. Practical knowledge of field trial implementation, Biotech traits, and/or crop production applications.
• Required to have excellent written and verbal communication skills that are necessary for effective local teamwork. Good English communication for internal reporting and collaboration.
• Demonstrated ability to take research projects from conception to completion, including statistical analyses and interpretation of research results.
• Candidate must demonstrate a collaborative mindset and have excellent interpersonal skills. Must enjoy working with multiple local and global stakeholders on multi-disciplinary teams in a timeline-driven environment.
• Demonstrated ability to innovate and strive for continuous improvement.
• Must be committed to a strong safety, diversity, inclusion, and sustainability culture.
• Valid driver’s license and domestic and international travel required.
