~1 min readThis position provides a high level of supervisory and management services to clients by management of their jurisdiction’s Building Department. The Building Official of a jurisdiction typically acts under the direction of the City/County Manager, Community Development Director or individual overseeing the Building Department/Division.
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department, overseeing all staff including, but not limited to counter technicians, clerical, inspection, and plan review; some jurisdictions may include the Code Enforcement and Planning/Zoning staff under the Building Official’s direction.
- Supervise, recruit, and train assigned staff.
- Ensure compliance within the community, of all appropriate State and Federal Regulations relating to construction projects, as well as enforcement of local Ordinances.
- Create and implement ordinances, policies, and procedures.
- Regularly meet with city department members, community & elected officials.
- Responsible for the enforcement of codes, regulations and ordinances and ensure that subordinate staff carry out these directives.
- Read and interpret codes and regulations.
- Ability to effectively communicate with the community, staff, upper-level managers, and elected officials.
- Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing.
- Conflict resolution management skills.
- Ability to effectively work and interact with the client’s customers, building professionals, staff, and the public.
- Represent CSG in client contract negotiations.
- Administer contracted professional building department services to client jurisdictions.
- Must project a positive image for the client, jurisdiction and CSG.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
~1 min read- Possess an International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Building Official. All licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of employment.
- 2+ years’ experience as a Building Official in a private/public agency; OR minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Building Inspector Supervisor/Deputy Building Official with a private/public
- Possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record is required.
- General office environment.
- Work with detailed, finely printed documents.
- Require extensive physical exertion during on-site inspections.
- May require physical flexibility & dexterity, including the ability to continually stand, bend, stoop, reach, crouch and climb.
- Must be able to travel to client sites and/or job sites.
- Require working in sitting position with computer for extended periods, occasionally.
- May require working outside in all weather conditions, occasionally.
- Require working after business hours, occasionally.
- May require working in elevated places, noisy environments, and dark areas, occasionally.
- Require walking, bending, and sitting.
- May require lifting up to 35 pounds.
- Require the capacity to work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines and multiple projects.
