  1. Builds and manages a portfolio of 75-125 prospective donors for identified CSU Monterey Bay fundraising objectives: to include identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. Conducts 12 to 15 field contacts per month.  Moves prospective donors through the traditional cultivation, solicitation and stewardship cycle recording actions in a moves management system.
  2. Supports the portfolios of assigned academic college or program working closely with the Dean, faculty, director and staff.
  3. Supports the Annual Gift program with her/his assigned prospects.
  4. Assists the Associate Vice President for University Development in the preparation and implementation of a development strategic plan.
  5. Assists the entire University Development Office in its functions and coordination of activities, including coordinating with other offices of the University.
  6. Exercises significant responsibility for formulating, implementing, and administering programs, policies, and procedures in support of University Advancement objectives. Exercises discretion and independent judgment in carrying out assigned responsibilities beyond merely conforming to established policies and procedures. In the interest of the University, may exercise authority related to the hiring, transfer, assignment, evaluation, promotion, discipline, and reward of employees.
  7. Participates in the activities of committees and organizations to ensure that appropriate development policies, procedures and safeguards exist and function in the best interest of the University.
  8. Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.

Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President for University Advancement, the Associate Director of Development engages, cultivates, solicits, and stewards alumni, parents, friends, corporate and foundations who have the capacity to make either major direct or planned gifts to CSU Monterey Bay.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and solicit gifts or close comparable sales.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to meet with donors; occasional evening/weekend work required.
  • Three (3) years of additional related annual fund, major or principal gift experience. Demonstrated success in philanthropic community engagement. 
  • Knowledge of the local philanthropic community.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Technical fluency with Microsoft Office Professional Suite, Raiser's Edge, and Google mail and calendaring programs.

  • This position has been designated as a sensitive position with access to and responsibility for detailed personally identifiable Level 1 confidential information about students, faculty, staff or alumni that is protected, personal or sensitive as defined in the CSU Information Security Data Classification Standards.
  • This position is a designated position in the California State University’s Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.
  • This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).  The position is required to participate in training at the direction of the Clery Director and must also promptly report allegations of reportable crimes according to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, its accompanying regulations; the California State Education Code, Chapter 15.5, of the Donahoe Higher Education Act, Section 67380; and the California State University system-wide policy, Code EO 1107.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid license to drive in the State of California, pass the Defensive Training Class, and be insurable under the University's liability coverage.
  • Due to the nature of the work, this position requires the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, on a regular basis. 

Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. The position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time.  May require travel between campus offices and off-campus locations.
