The Stockroom Technician plays a vital role in supporting chemistry laboratory instruction by ensuring students and faculty have the materials, equipment, and resources needed for a successful learning experience. Working within a dynamic academic environment, this position provides comprehensive logistical and technical support for upper- and lower-division chemistry laboratory courses. Responsibilities include procuring and preparing supplies, maintaining inventories, managing hazardous waste collection, and supporting laboratory operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an organized, hands-on professional who enjoys working in a scientific setting and contributing to student learning and laboratory excellence.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Procure, prepare, and distribute laboratory materials, supplies, and equipment to support chemistry instructional programs.
- →Maintain inventory records, databases, and stockroom operations to ensure materials are available and accurately tracked.
- →Collect, store, and manage hazardous waste in accordance with established safety and regulatory requirements.
- →Perform basic maintenance, adjustments, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and scientific instruments.
- →Assist with coordinating laboratory logistics and supporting graduate teaching assistants involved in laboratory instruction.
What We Offer
~1 min read- This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
- This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
- Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
- The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

This position is within the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. The department has 20 Tenured/Tenured Track Faculty, 1.5 FTE lecturers, over 40 teaching associates, 7 full time technical staff and 2 administrative staff. The department provides B.A., B.S., MA, MS and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry. The department offers a comprehensive undergraduate research program in which almost all undergraduates participate, an MS degree which is a true research degree with thesis, and a Ph.D. through a Joint Doctoral Program, which combines the resources of the chemistry departments of SDSU and UC-San Diego. Our on-campus facilities provide a substantial inventory of modern chemical instrumentation and computer equipment in a modern laboratory building. Additional resources are available through collaborations with faculty at nearby institutions and with the extensive local chemical industry.

Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to specialty area to which assigned.
OR
Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
OR
Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the specialty area to which assigned may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
Requirements

- Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques related to the discipline and the curriculum.
- Knowledge of the materials and supplies in the curriculum and the curriculum and their uses.
- Ability to plan, organize, and schedule activities; ability to operate technical equipment related to the discipline.
- Ability to maintain records.
- Ability to adjust and perform simple maintenance of technical and scientific equipment.
