It oversees clinical, fiscal, and administrative aspects of mental health services in Region 5. The network operates in Waterbury, Danbury, and Torrington, with over 200 dedicated staff offering comprehensive services for individuals with long-term mental illnesses.�\r\n \r\n \r\n The Young Adult Service program provides clinically appropriate, trauma-sensitive, recovery-oriented services to clients ages 18 to 25. Young Adult Services provide an array of flexible age and developmentally appropriate services at varying levels of care to meet clients’ individualized needs. These services are multidisciplinary community-based, and include individual therapy, group and family treatment, case management, psychosocial skill development and employment services. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services hospital, community behavioral health facility or program this class is accountable for leading Mental Health Assistants in the assessment, planning and implementation of paraprofessional nursing, clinical and/or rehabilitative interventions designed to support client short and/or long-term needs. In outpatient or community programs this class is accountable for independently performing the full range of paraprofessional functions in case management and crisis intervention services.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

\r\n\r\n Providing case management, care coordination, and rehabilitative skill‑building to young adults ages 18–25 with clinically complex diagnoses in a community setting\r\n Managing a caseload within the Young Adult Services (YAS) community support program\r\n Participating in recovery planning and implementing care plans based on assessed needs\r\n Using functional assessment tools such as the DLA‑20 to inform services\r\n Delivering individual and group skill‑building in areas such as budgeting, cooking, cleaning, and transportation\r\n Conducting community visits to engage young adults in treatment and assess ongoing progress\r\n Coordinating care with team members, community providers, and natural supports to address needs related to medical care, entitlements, housing, and more\r\n Assisting individuals in developing coping strategies to manage internal and external stressors\r\n Identifying, recognizing, and reporting potential risk factors to the clinical team, and helping support risk‑mitigation strategies\r\n Supporting young adults in pursuing vocational and educational goals\r\n Participating in treatment meetings, case conferences, critical incident reviews, and other required meetings\r\n Attending assigned committee meetings as needed\r\n Utilizing computer technology effectively for documentation and communication\r\n Demonstrating strong documentation skills and completing records in a timely, accurate, and confidential manner\r\n Maintaining required productivity standards\r\n Other related duties as required\r\n\r\n\r\n

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

\r\n Considerable knowledge of\r\n \r\n psychiatric rehabilitation and/or case management principles, practices and procedures;�\r\n acceptable standards of nursing care;�\r\n \r\n \r\n Knowledge of\r\n \r\n dynamics of human behavior;�\r\n hygiene and sanitation;�\r\n safety and fire procedures and security measures;�\r\n community resources and programs;�\r\n \r\n \r\n Considerable\r\n \r\n interpersonal skills;�\r\n oral and written communication skills;�\r\n counseling skills;�\r\n \r\n \r\n Observation skills;�\r\n Ability to\r\n \r\n lead staff;�\r\n supervise client activity;�\r\n interpret and implement agency and/or facility policies and procedures;�\r\n apply principles of therapeutic counseling under supervision;�\r\n develop curricula and instruct groups;�\r\n organize;�\r\n understand, interpret and carry out oral and written instructions.\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Three (3) years of experience at the level of a Mental Health Assistant 1.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

\r\n\r\n College training in mental health technology, a behavioral science, social work, rehabilitation therapy or its equivalent may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.\r\n Completion of a mental health trainee certificate program may be substituted for one-half (1/2) year of the General Experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n\r\n Experience working with young adult population (ages 18 to 25)�with behavioral health, substance abuse and trauma issues\r\n Experience co-leading groups\r\n Experience applying evidence-based practices and therapeutic treatment approaches\r\n Experience providing trauma-informed services and the ability to coordinate responsive care for clients in crisis.\r\n Experience understanding cultural diversity and fostering cultural sensitivity to client needs.\r\n Experience with computer systems and maintaining accurate documentation\r\n\r\n\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

\r\n Incumbents in this class may be required to be bilingual or fluent in American Sign Language.\r\n Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.\r\n Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.\r\n\r\n

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be required to lift and restrain clients and may have significant exposure to infectious and/or communicable diseases, strongly disagreeable conditions and risk of injury.\r\n
