• Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $112,375 to $124,158 + super

Our Science and Insights team is currently seeking to appoint a Remote Sensing Scientist to apply advanced remote sensing and vegetation mapping expertise to deliver the scientific data and insights that help protect and manage NSW's natural environment.

As a Remote Sensing Scientist, you will support state-wide vegetation and landscape mapping programs that inform environmental planning, conservation and land management across NSW. Working with scientists and GIS specialists, you will analyse remotely sensed imagery, interpret aerial photography and develop high-quality spatial datasets. Occasional field work may be required to support ecological survey programs, ground-truth vegetation mapping and improve interpretation accuracy. You will contribute to scientifically rigorous projects, provide technical expertise, and help deliver reliable environmental information that supports evidence-based decisions to protect NSW's natural landscapes.

You bring experience in remote sensing, geospatial analysis and aerial photographic interpretation, with an understanding of Australian native vegetation and environmental mapping. You're confident working with spatial data and applying scientific expertise to deliver accurate, high-quality outcomes.

You are a collaborative team member who communicates technical information clearly and builds effective working relationships with stakeholders. With strong analytical skills, attention to detail and a proactive approach, you can manage competing priorities and contribute to projects that deliver meaningful environmental outcomes for NSW.

• Demonstrated expertise in contemporary remote sensing technologies including aerial photographic interpretation of Australian native vegetation.
• Experience working within a project team to deliver high quality data capture, mapping, data management and reporting to meet expected milestones and deliverables.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Australian native vegetation.
• Experience using field observations and ecological survey data to support vegetation community interpretation and mapping.

• Scientific qualifications, knowledge and demonstrated experience of delivering state-wide scientifically rigorous projects using remote sensed imagery interpretation, analysis and assessment.
