JOB SUMMARY
Guest Services is a fast-paced, multi-faceted department responsible for a variety of guest experiences, public events, parking operations, admissions, attractions, and revenue collection functions throughout the Dallas Zoo. The Assistant Manager – Parking Operations is responsible for assisting with the daily management and oversight of parking operations, including garage and surface lot operations, parking technology systems, traffic flow, guest service standards, revenue control procedures, and staff supervision.
This position assists in supporting and guiding guest service staff while ensuring a safe, efficient, and welcoming parking experience for Zoo guests, members, staff, vendors, and event attendees. Responsibilities include oversight of parking equipment and systems, troubleshooting operational issues, supporting credential and validation workflows, monitoring traffic patterns, conducting audits, coordinating field trip bus parking, training staff, and assisting with event parking logistics.
A wide variety of operational and guest service-related duties are performed both indoors and outdoors. This position serves as a leadership presence within the parking operation and is expected to maintain a calm, solutions-oriented approach in a dynamic environment.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Ensure that each guest receives outstanding service by providing a welcoming environment, including greeting and acknowledging guests and maintaining high customer service standards.
• Assist in the daily management of parking operations, including garage operations, surface lots, traffic flow, parking equipment functionality, and guest access.
• Coordinate daily activities of team members and assist with shift supervision, deployment, breaks, and staffing adjustments based on operational needs.
• Train, mentor, and support parking and guest service staff to ensure operational and guest service standards are consistently met.
• Communicate staffing or operational concerns to management as appropriate
• Assist with management and troubleshooting of parking systems, including ticket dispensers, pay-on-foot stations, validation systems, QR credential access, parking software platforms, points of sale and gate equipment.
• Monitor parking revenue control procedures and ensure cash handling and payment processing standards are followed.
• Perform audits of parking activity, cashier activity, validations, credentials, and equipment functionality as assigned.
• Assist with parking credential management for staff, vendors, members, and event personnel.
• Monitor and respond to operational issues involving parking access, validations, gate equipment, traffic congestion, and guest concerns.
• Coordinate parking logistics and staffing support for special events, peak attendance days, and after-hours functions.
• Conduct parking lot and garage inspections to ensure facilities remain clean, safe, operational, and free of debris.
• Maintain awareness of current promotions, Zoo events, member programs, and operational updates.
• Assist with crowd management and traffic control to maintain safe and efficient vehicle and pedestrian movement.
• Operate two-way radio and walkie-talkie to communicate effectively with Zoo staff, security personnel, contractors, and leadership teams.
• Maintain orderly appearance of workspaces, parking facilities, equipment areas, and storage areas.
• Observe and enforce safety standards, operational guidelines, and guest service expectations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Experience with parking technology systems, point-of-sale systems, credential systems, or access-control systems preferred.
• Experience with parking operations, traffic management, revenue control systems, or guest service operations preferred.
• Must possess excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work calmly under pressure, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and make sound operational decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to effectively respond to and diffuse upset guest situations.
• Experience supervising or leading teams preferred.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with guests, staff, and leadership both orally and in writing.
• Must be flexible, reliable, and a self-motivated team player.
• Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
• Must be able to operate necessary operational and office equipment.
• Must possess strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and irregular hours as operational needs require.
• Must be able to actively work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a team to achieve positive operational results.
• Ability to demonstrate a welcoming and cooperative demeanor toward guests, staff, volunteers, and contractors.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Regularly works irregular hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and special events as operational needs require.
• Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Position requires extended periods of standing, walking, and active movement throughout parking facilities and Zoo grounds.
• Ability to exert light to moderate physical effort, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects/materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
• Must be able to walk, stand, sit, kneel, stoop, crawl, twist, bend, climb stairs, reach above head, and perform physical duties associated with parking and operational support activities.
• Must be able to safely operate in active vehicle and pedestrian traffic environments.
• Must be able to communicate clearly using radios, phones, and other communication devices.
Successful candidates must complete pre-employment drug screening and background check.
