  • HEW 5 $86,744 - $97,290 + 17% Superannuation (pro rata, part time)

Provides daily technical support to research staff and students including animal husbandry, welfare breeding programs and maintenance of records.

Responsibilities

  • Support animal-based research in line with relevant Australian codes, ethics committees, and regulatory requirements.
  • Model professional and ethical behaviours, support animal use in research and teaching and ensure facilities meet leading institutional standards.
  • Ensure ethical animal care and welfare in line with protocols, including daily monitoring of health, environment, and basic needs.
  • Manage animal breeding programs, specifically with crossing transgenic lines to meet experimental requirements including technical record keeping subject to audit.
  • Will be given opportunity to work with a variety of avian and aquatics species.
  • Degree without subsequent experience; or Diploma with experience; or Post Trades Certificate/Advanced Certificate with relevant experience; or equivalent combination of experience and/or education/training
  • Demonstrated experience in the care of animals e.g laboratory rodents, including application of surgical skill
  • Knowledge of animal use in research and teaching in a broad range of disciplines and proven ability to successfully work within a high performing research team
  • Capacity to understand the requirements of relevant Commonwealth and State legislation and external regulatory authorities or funding bodies
  • Experience providing advice or support services
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to interpret and apply procedures
  • Experience coordinating work and managing priorities
  • Problem-solving and analytical capability
  • Ability to contribute to improvement initiatives
