Overview: As a Mechanical Insulator in the oil and gas sector based in Carlsbad, NM, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient operation and safety of industrial systems. Your primary responsibility is to install, maintain, and repair insulation materials on pipes, tanks, and equipment to prevent heat loss, reduce energy consumption, and protect personnel from hazardous temperatures.
Responsibilities:
• Measure, cut, and fit insulation materials on pipes, vessels, and machinery according to industry standards
• Inspect insulation systems for wear and perform repairs or replacements as needed
• Adhere to safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
• Select appropriate insulation materials based on temperature, environment, and application needs
• Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and any safety incidents
• Coordinate with engineers, construction teams, and other trades to meet project timelines and specifications
Required Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Proven hands-on experience in mechanical insulation, preferably in the oil and gas industry
Preferred Qualifications:
• Relevant technical certification or vocational training in mechanical insulation
• Formal technical certification or vocational credential in mechanical insulation or a related field
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Understanding of insulation materials, installation techniques, and safety regulations
• Strong problem-solving skills for identifying issues and implementing solutions
• Capability to work in challenging environments including extreme temperatures and at heights
• Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaboration
• Proficiency in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and ladders
• Ability to interpret technical reports, diagrams, and manuals accurately
• Physical ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and poles; bend, twist, kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl
• Capacity to lift, push, pull, and move at least 50 lbs routinely
